Berry season is in full swing and that means it's the perfect time to dress up our GAPS yogurt with yummy, antioxidant-rich fresh berries and touch of raw honey! ๐Ÿฏ

Did you know that our GAPS yogurt is fermented for a full 24 hours?

While this makes it quite sour, it also basically eliminates the lactose and greatly breaks down the milk proteins making this yogurt a great choice for those on diets geared towards fighting candida, IBS, SIBO and other gut issues.

Diets such as the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) and Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) have played a pivotal role in helping many people heal themselves and their families of digestive, mental and emotional symptoms, contributing to a well-nourished, ENJOYABLE life.

Beauty starts on the inside, and that goes for personality AND what we eat/drink, too!

Skin issues are rampant in this modern world, and much of it is due to environmental factors like the foods we eat and the things we use on our skin.

Have you taken a look at your beauty products lately? Many beauty products are filled with abrasive chemicals that cause our skin to have negative reactions--acne, psoriasis, eczema, and more. Anything that comes in contact with our skin deserves to be scrutinized--our water, skincare products (soap, lotions, make-up), laundry detergent/fabric softener, etc.

There are many natural products that can promote healthy skin, such as tallow, shea butter, and natural clays. Choose beauty products that have a natural base, minimal ingredients, and that are unscented or lightly scented, naturally.

Pay close attention to the foods you eat. See what agrees with your body. Inflammation from foods we are intolerant to is a major cause of skin problems.

Consume plenty of nutrient-rich foods such as pastured meats, wild-caught fish, fresh and cooked vegetables (WITH FAT to help you absorb the nutrients). Eat fresh fruits moderately. Snack on sprouted nuts regularly. Drink fresh juices, smoothies, meat broths and pure water. Salt your foods liberally. Eat foods that support gut health such as fermented vegetables, yogurt & kefir--these foods fight candida and other pathogens that contribute to unhealthy skin.

Cut down your sugar intake. Eliminate processed foods. Ditch the soda. Get more sunshine. Make moving your body a priority. Make sure you're getting your beauty sleep!

While using a powdered milk kefir starter is better than not drinking kefir at all, using real milk kefir grains is the way to go!

The powdered starters are commercialized and contain a selection of probiotics, which cuts down on diversity. They do provide a more predictable texture and flavor, and are much easier to use.

Real milk kefir grains are a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeasts (SCOBY). They contain a much wider range of beneficial bacteria and yeasts! It takes more time to get used to using real kefir grains, and they may change somewhat by season, but using real grains is worth the extra effort. They support a diverse microbiome.

The best kefir for you is whichever one you enjoy drinking and your body tolerates!

๐Ÿฎ Our cow milk kefir, the original, is thick, creamy and tart. It's great for those who love a more tart flavor profile. It's also super delicious blended with strawberries or fresh mangoes. Yummmm.

๐Ÿ Our goat milk kefir is the thinnest consistency of the three. Great for those who love the taste of goat milk (it seems some LOVE it and some hate it!), and also for those with texture issues who can't handle the thickness of cow/sheep kefir.

๐Ÿ‘ Our sheep milk kefir is the thickest of the three--it can get thick like ice cream at times! It's also the least tart, which makes it a favorite for those new to kefir. Great with cinnamon and bananas!

There are some nutritional differences among the different types of milk, like sheep milk has the highest folate and goat milk is higher in selenium, but they all have a great mix of vitamins and minerals. Plus the fermenting process increases B vitamins and adds plenty of probiotics and enzymes to help your body use nutrients more efficiently.
