It originates from the transverse processes of the upper cervical vertebrae (C1-C4) and inserts into the superior part of the medial border of the scapula. . Its primary functions include elevating the scapula (shoulder blade), downwardly rotating the scapula, and tilting the neck to the same side. . This muscle is actively involved in various movements of the shoulder and neck, contributing to actions like shrugging the shoulders and supporting the head in a tilted position. . Additionally, the Levator scapulae plays a role in stabilizing the shoulder blade during arm movements. . Dysfunction or tension in this muscle can lead to issues such as headaches, dizziness, vision issues, congested sinuses, neck pain, shoulder blade pain, and restricted range of motion in the neck and shoulders. .
