Sometimes when I’m explaining skin function, I referred to it as a construction site. Spoiler alert: The sun is a wrecking ball. 🏗️☀️ Did you know your skin has its own team of master architects? They’re called Fibroblasts.

In healthy skin (slide 1), these cells are “stretched out” and active. They hang onto a tight scaffold of collagen and elastin like a high-tech jungle gym. As long as they stay stretched, they keep pumping out fresh collagen and hydration.

But here’s the catch: Chronic UV exposure shatters that scaffold. When the sun breaks down those collagen “beams,” the fibroblasts have nothing to hold onto. They collapse (see slide 2). Once they lose their grip, they stop building. They become “zombie cells”—alive, but no longer maintaining your skin’s firm, resilient shape. This is the true root of deep wrinkles and loss of “bounce.”

The lesson? Protecting your architects is a lot easier than trying to rebuild the whole site. 🛡️
