Plastic is everywhere—but a lot of it shows up in ways we don’t even realize.
🔴Plastic never fully disappears. It doesn’t biodegrade—it breaks into smaller and smaller pieces called microplastics that stay in our environment for hundreds of years.
🔴Many tea bags contain plastic. Even the ones that look “natural” can be sealed with plastic that releases when steeped in hot water.
🔴Synthetic clothes shed plastic fibers every time they’re washed, sending tiny plastics down the drain and into waterways.
🔴Takeout coffee cups from drive-throughs are often lined with plastic. Even though they look like paper, that thin lining makes them difficult to recycle and means hot drinks can leach microplastics over time.
🔴Recycling has limits. Not all plastics are recyclable, and even those that are can only be recycled a limited number of times before becoming waste.
The good news? Awareness changes everything.
Once you know where plastic hides, you can start making small, realistic swaps that actually add up over time.
No pressure for perfection—just progress, one choice at a time 🌿

For some it’s the grab-and-go snacks.
For others it’s coffee cups, produce bags, or that sneaky shrink wrap on everything.
The point isn’t perfection — it’s noticing. Once you see it, you can start swapping it.
Tell us: what plastic has been your biggest challenge so far?

When we put something in the recycling bin, most of us imagine it's being turned into something new. But the reality is more complicated.
Some plastics are difficult or expensive to recycle. Some end up landfilled, some are burned, and some escape into our waterways and environment.
This isn't a reason to stop recycling—recycling matters. But it is a reminder that reducing what enters the system matters even more.
That's why Plastic Free July is about more than recycling. It's about noticing what comes into our homes and looking for ways to create less waste in the first place.
Have you ever toured a recycling facility? Did you know you can visit the Kent County Recycling & Education Center to learn exactly where your recycling is going?
Which swap are you going to try this weekend? Share it in the comments!

Plastic-Free July is a global movement that encourages millions of people to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics. It's not about being perfect—it's about becoming more aware of the choices we make every day and finding simple swaps that fit into real life.
This year, we're making it fun with a **Plastic-Free July Bingo Board** and **Weekly Challenges**!
