What’s your hair porosity? ✨

LOW POROSITY TIPS

• Deep condition when needed, and use heat.
• Clarify often to avoid buildup.
• Be careful with protein. Low porosity hair likely needs less protein than other porosities so don’t overdo it.
• Avoid using heavy products with thick oils and butters which can cause build up.
• Use low suds shampoo instead of co-washing which can cause buildup.

MEDIUM POROSITY TIPS

• Deep condition regularly and use heat.
• Keep protein in your routine to maintain balance, but it doesn’t need to be in your daily routine.
• Clarify on a regular basis to avoid buildup.
• Use a co-wash or low poo.

HIGH POROSITY TIPS

• Deep condition regularly, but don’t overdo it.
• Use a leave-in conditioner.
• Be careful with heavy products which can weigh down your hair, especially if it is thin.
• Incorporate protein regularly.
• Use a low poo or low suds shampoo and clarify regularly

Thinning locs can occur for several reasons, often linked to improper care or underlying health issues. Here are some common reasons why locs may start thinning:

 1. Tension from Styling: Consistently tight styles like braids, twists, or ponytails can place stress on the roots, causing hair thinning or breakage over time.
 2. Over-Retwisting: Retwisting locs too frequently or too tightly can weaken the roots, leading to thinning locs or even loc loss.
 3. Product Buildup: Heavy oils, creams, or waxes can clog the hair follicles, preventing them from receiving the necessary oxygen and nutrients for growth, which can cause the locs to thin.
 4. Lack of Moisture: Dryness can weaken locs and make them more prone to breakage. As locs are primarily made of dead hair, maintaining scalp moisture is critical for growth and retention.
 5. Health and Nutritional Deficiencies: Nutritional deficiencies, such as a lack of essential vitamins (like iron, biotin, or vitamin D), can impact hair growth. Since blood feeds the hair follicles, poor circulation or inadequate nutrition can lead to thinning.

✨These are just some examples of why your locs are thinning. It’s up to you to get help from a professional to find out the cause and treatment.
