❤️ WHO TAKES CARE OF THE PEOPLE WHO CARE FOR OTHERS?

My passion for helping others started before I even realized it could become my career.

When I was younger, I helped my stepcoach care for her father. At the time, I didn’t know that something I was doing naturally would eventually become my purpose.

Later, in high school, a friend introduced me to dances for individuals with special needs. Seeing their smiles, happiness, and excitement made me realize how much I loved being part of their world.

Years later, a coworker’s mother told me a group home was hiring. I jumped at the opportunity!

Over 8 years later, I’m still here. Still caring. Still showing up. ❤️

Nothing compares to walking into work and seeing someone’s face light up because they’re happy to see you.

But here’s what people don’t see.

We show up exhausted, stressed, worried about bills, working short-staffed, and sometimes sacrificing our own well-being.

Yet we continue because someone is counting on us.

The individuals I support count on me every day, without realizing that sometimes I’m struggling to count on myself. 💔

That’s why October 29th means so much to me.

We’re asking the State of Connecticut for fair wages, adequate staffing, safer working conditions, and the support we need to continue providing quality care.

How can we keep pouring from a cup nobody is helping us refill?

I don’t want to leave a career I love because I can no longer afford to stay in it.

And I don’t want exhaustion to destroy the passion that brought me here.

8+ Years of Caring. 8+ Years of Learning. A Lifetime of Advocating.

For over 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. And if there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that every individual deserves to be seen, heard, respected, and valued.

I’ve witnessed their accomplishments, celebrated their milestones, learned their personalities, and built connections that go far beyond a job title.

But I’ve also seen the challenges that come with providing quality care when staffing is limited and the people responsible for that care aren’t always given the support they need.

MY individuals are not just a shift to cover, a number on a schedule, or a responsibility to check off. They are human beings with feelings, dreams, personalities, and lives that matter.

And the PEOPLE who dedicate themselves to supporting them deserve to be valued, too.

That’s why on October 29th, I’ll be standing alongside others to advocate for better staffing, fair wages, and safer working conditions.
