Botox vs Dysport: does it matter? 🧐
If you're interested in reducing the appearance of wrinkles, you may have heard of Botox and Dysport. While both are injectable treatments used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, there are some differences between the two. Here's what you need to know:
Botox and Dysport are both made from botulinum toxin, which temporarily limits the movement of muscles in the face to smooth out wrinkles. 🤩
Dysport is made with smaller molecules than Botox, which means that it may spread more easily and affect a wider area. Some studies have shown that Dysport may kick in faster (within the first few days), but they both generally last about 3-4 months before wearing off. 🙌🏼
I typically tell people to expect to see the full effect of their treatment with either Botox or Dysport by the 2 week mark. At that point, we can make any adjustments if needed. 👍🏼
Pain with the injections is minimal-feels like a tiny bee sting that subsides almost immediately. 👌🏼 Occasionally there can be pinpoint bruises at the injection site. There is no downtime-you could have this done on your lunch break! 😎
Both Botox and Dysport are safe and effective treatments for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, but the best choice for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. If you're considering either treatment, it's important to talk to a qualified and experienced dermatologist to discuss your options and determine the best approach for achieving your desired results. 🤓
If you’re ready to get rid of your wrinkles (or prevent them from ever happening), our next special injection day is next Thursday, May 4th - once a quarter we offer special pricing of $12/unit! 👏🏼 There are very limited number of spots left, but call the office to schedule if you’re interested! (We do these injections every day as well-so if you miss the special pricing day, no biggie-we still got you covered!) 🫶🏻

Glowing skin starts with hydration! 💦💁♀️
Did you know that drinking water can do wonders for your skin? Here are just a few benefits:
1️⃣ Helps flush out toxins and impurities, promoting clearer skin.
2️⃣ Increases skin elasticity and helps prevent premature aging.
3️⃣ Hydrates skin from the inside out, reducing dryness and flakiness.
4️⃣ Improves skin texture, overall even pigmentation, and gives a natural glow.
5️⃣ Can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
I’m the first to admit I don’t drink enough water-a lot of times I get busy throughout the day and just forget or don’t get thirsty enough to think about it. 🥶 Let’s try to make drinking more water a priority, for both your health and vanity! 😍

Did you know your board-certified dermatologist had to train for three years at the microscope evaluating all the different rashes, tumors, and bugs? 🤓
While most of us don’t specialize in dermatopathology, or looking at biopsy tissue specimens under the scope, we do still perform in-office scrapings to look for things like fungus and mites. This helps us find the best and most specific treatment options to get you better faster! 🥳
Second photo shows a positive KOH stain for fungal hyphae! 😝

Happy Freaky Friday the 13th!! 🫣
Check out this massive lipoma I removed this morning! 🤩
Lipomas are essentially a tumor/growth of fatty tissue that come up in kind of an abnormal area for that fat. 🤨 They show up as a soft rubbery lump under the skin, can be small or get quite large, and can sometimes become tender. 🥺 They can grow larger with weight gain, but generally don’t get smaller after weight loss. 😒 They’re not dangerous or malignant, but people often want them removed. This was a fun one! 😆
Think you may have a lipoma and want it checked or removed?? Give the office a call to schedule a consult!

What is this golden goodness?? 💛
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is created by drawing some of your own blood, spinning it down in a centrifuge, and extracting the good stuff off the top to use for better post-procedure wound healing, as a treatment for hair regrowth, and even as a biostimulatory filler that can be injected into the face to plump and improve overall appearance.
So how does it work? 🤔
Activated platelets release multiple growth factors that induce fibroblast activation (important for wound healing), collagen synthesis, stimulate new blood vessel growth, and reduce inflammation.
For hair regrowth: 💁🏼♀️
Certain growth factors PRP releases have been shown to induce and prolong the anagen phase (growth phase) of the hair cycle, prevent apoptosis (cell death) and catagen phase (fallout phase of the cycle-meaning it prevents shedding), and also helps transition your hair from resting phase to growth phase faster!
For skin restoration or filler: 🥰
Growth factors stimulate collagen and new cell synthesis, new blood vessels for healthier, more supple skin, with clinically proven fewer wrinkles and improved firmness and elasticity. It’s also thought that certain growth factors decrease melanogenesis (pigment formulation), so has been shown to improve dark circles under the eyes!
Overall, this stuff is literally GOLD for the hair and skin! 🤩 Call to make an appointment and see if PRP may be a good treatment option for your concerns.

What’s the scoop on collagen supplements??
Bottom line: While more research is continually being done, there have been some solid evidence-based articles to support improvement in skin texture and hair growth!
The best data seems to back a marine-derived hydrolyzed collagen, such as this one from Nutrafol®] 🐠 (This is the one I take personally, with a splash of Mio as it’s unflavored) 🤟🏽You do have to be patient, as you won’t see results until probably about 3 months of taking it. ⌛️There have been no reported adverse events, meaning it’s safe to use! 👌🏼
Skin benefits: improved hydration and elasticity, decreased wrinkles and textural improvement 🤩
Hair benefits: increased anagen to telogen ratio (more hair in growth phase, less in rest phase), increased growth factors, and decreased growth inhibitory factors 😎
If you’re trying to go all in on your skin and hair care, oral collagen supplementation is a nice addition to your regimen. We have the Nutrafol®] one available in our office, or you can find it on our website to ship to you.
As always, here for all your hair and skincare needs-call to make an appointment if you’re struggling!

Is your DIET making your ACNE worse?? 😰
Certain foods have been shown to have some negative or positive effects on acne.
BAD foods for acne:
❌ High glycemic load foods (sugary cereals, French fries, white bread, etc)
🥛 Skim milk (yes, skim is the worst of all the milk types for acne-it decreases estrogens during processing)
❎ Protein powders (especially whey protein-because it’s insulinotropic and can increase androgens)
GOOD foods for acne:
🐟 Foods high in omega 3s (certain fish like salmon, oysters, flaxseed, chia seeds, walnuts, etc)
💊 Probiotics (good bacteria for your gut)
🌱 High fiber foods (beans, squash, collard greens, berries, etc)
Bottom line: it’s definitely not the most important thing that contributes to acne, but worth paying attention to if you’ve been breaking out lately. If your acne is out of control, you might need the help of a dermatologist and prescription-strength medications! Call to set up an appointment and let’s get your skin pimple-free! 🥰

Flushed cheeks and unexpected bumps got you hiding your face? 🙈
You may have rosacea, a common inflammatory condition of the skin related to acne but not quite the same.
There are tons of triggers that can induce flares, and some of them may seem kind of silly: UV/light exposure☀️, getting overheated or hot temperatures 🔥, warm beverages/soups 🍜, spicy foods, caffeine ☕️, alcohol 🍷, and emotional stress, to name a few. 🤯
It can affect the eyes 👀 and cause grittiness, redness, etc. It can also cause thickening of tissue particularly of the nose 👃🏼 leading to disfiguring enlargement on occasion.
First line treatment is strict sun protection 🧴 all the time and avoidance of triggers 🙅🏼♀️, but there are a variety of prescriptions your dermatologist can provide to help get your rosacea under control.
If you think you may have rosacea, or if you know you do but it’s not well controlled, give the office a call to schedule an appt so we can give you your confidence back!

Dandruff got you down in the dumps? 😔
Here’s some tips to fight the flakes:
☝🏽Wash more regularly-Doesn’t have to be every day, but products, debris, and dead skin cells can build up 😖
✌🏾Shampoo twice: first time is to get all the yucky stuff out, then second time actually cleanses the scalp and allows any medicated ingredients to work properly
⛔️ Don’t grease the scalp or apply oils near the base of your roots-it’s not a dryness issue!
🧴 Try an anti-dandruff shampoo such as Head & Shoulders North America] T-gel or T-Sal (for thicker scaling)
🫴🏼 If you’re itchy, try a soothing spritz such as Head & Shoulders North America] Royal Oils soothing scalp elixer
🫶🏻 If you’re still having issues, you may have a medical grade dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) and require prescription medications from a dermatologist. We deal with this frequently and are the experts at clearing you up!
