Our first Black Hair-Story highlight is all about Christina Jenkins, the creator of the "Hair Weev".

In 1949 while working for a wig manufacturer, Mrs. Jenkins began developing a technique to make the company's wig fit more securely on the head.

This lead to her exploring different methods of adding extensions into women's natural hair, thus the "Hair Weev" was born. The innovative process involved three cords and a device she called a weaving frame, which created a natural weft on which the commercial extensions could be added.

This was a Gamer Changer! This technique During this period in history women were attaching there weaves with hair pins and clips, which looked very bulky and unnatural and were prone to slipping out.

Jenkins was granted a patent for her technique in 1952. Soon after, she moved to Ohio and began teaching her technique to other stylist and cosmetologists. She would go on to to teach this technique across Europe.

In honor of Black History Month and all things Hair, we are celebrating "Black Hair-Story Month"!

This month we want to highlight some African American inventors who made some major advancements in haircare.
