Flawless Makeup Starts with the Basics ✨
A flawless makeup look isn’t about using too many products—it’s about how you use them. Always begin with clean, well-moisturized skin so your makeup sits smoothly and lasts longer. Apply foundation in light layers and blend patiently, especially around the edges of your face for a natural finish. Cream-based products help create a soft, skin-like glow, while setting only where needed keeps the look fresh, not cakey. Finish with a light mist to melt everything together and give your skin that healthy, effortless beauty.

True beauty reflects how gently you care for yourself, from keeping your skin hydrated to allowing moments of rest in your daily routine. When your skincare is simple and consistent, your natural glow becomes effortless, highlighting confidence rather than covering it. Soft, healthy skin is not created overnight—it’s built through patience, balance, and choosing what makes you feel fresh, comfortable, and naturally radiant every day.

Cleanse Twice Daily
Cleansing is a crucial step for anyone with oily skin. Washing your face twice a day—once in the morning and once at night—helps remove excess oil, dirt, and impurities that can clog your pores and lead to breakouts.
Use a Gentle, Foaming Cleanser: Opt for a sulfate-free foaming cleanser that effectively removes oil without stripping your skin. Harsh cleansers can actually trigger your skin to produce more oil to compensate for the dryness.
Look for Salicylic Acid: Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that helps exfoliate inside your pores, preventing and treating blackheads and breakouts.

Pay Attention to Your Pairings
Certain skincare ingredients work better together while some should never be allowed to touch your skin at the same time. Layering serums calls for ingredient synergy, choosing actives that enhance and support each other’s benefits while filling in the gaps and making sure all your bases are covered. Here are some of our favorite serum pairings:
Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol: A powerful hydrator and an anti-aging MVP combo is your best bet in delaying the most common signs of aging.
Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid: Let your skin bask in the best glow up with these daytime skincare staples that transform dull-looking skin, brighten dark spots, and deliver intense hydration.
Peptides and Retinol: Layering retinol with peptides helps reduce irritation and ensures your skin barrier isn’t compromised by heavy-hitting active ingredients.
Niacinamide and Retinol: Niacinamide is a multitasking vitamin with a long list of benefits, including soothing and nourishing retinol-treated skin.
Ceramides, Peptides, and Pre- and Probiotics: These ingredients are the absolute go-tos if you’re serious about strengthening your skin’s natural barrier and balancing its microbiome.
Hyaluronic Acid and AHAs/BHAs: Hyaluronic acid can nourish, soften, and rehydrate the skin after undergoing chemical exfoliation.

SKIN CARE TIP: SENSITIVE SKIN
If you have sensitive skin, look for skin care products that say “suitable for sensitive skin.” When a Mary Kay® product has that text in the description, we’ve verified that claim through clinical tests with board-certified dermatologists to show that these products are suitable for sensitive skin.
Why is moisturizing my skin important? What are the consequences if I don’t?
David Gan: Our skin naturally produces oil to moisturize itself, but it’s important to replenish moisture after cleansing your skin. Squeaky-clean, unmoisturized skin isn’t necessarily a good thing. And depending on the person, skipping your moisturizer can lead to extra oil production or dry skin. If you have oily skin, you need a moisturizer that works for your skin type. An oil-free moisturizer could be a good option for you.
Do you have any general tips or tricks for someone new to having a skin care routine?
Dr. Cristi Gomez: Start with cleanser and moisturizer, and add new skin care products as you feel comfortable. This will also give your skin time to adjust to new products, which is important if you are trying a product with added benefits, such as exfoliation, for the first time.
Also, make it easy to maintain your routine. I buy two facial cleansers. I keep one in my shower for washing my face in the morning and one by my sink for washing my face at night. This makes washing my face way more convenient and eliminates excuses.

Skincare routine
Cleanse twice daily: Use a gentle cleanser and warm water to wash your face morning and night to remove dirt and oil.
Moisturize: Apply a moisturizer suitable for your skin type to keep it hydrated, especially on damp skin to lock in moisture.
Protect from the sun: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day, even when it's cloudy, and limit sun exposure.
Exfoliate regularly: Gently exfoliate a few times a week to remove dead skin cells, but avoid harsh scrubbing.
Remove makeup: Always remove all makeup before going to sleep to prevent clogged pores and allow your skin to regenerate.
Be gentle: Avoid scrubbing your skin or using hot water, which can cause irritation.
