We’ve taken Mr. Henry from needing an urgent lung transplant to 97% lung function. If that’s not a High Level victory, I don’t know what is!!!

Thankful that these 2 chose to save Henry’s life and sought me out to help them do just that. They’ve become family.

What a non-scale victory!!!! A very Merry Christmas for this family 🎄

Ice baths and their timing. Can it affect your training results?

Let’s talk about it.

The Journal of Physiology dropped a study focusing on cold water immersion and strength/hypertrophy training.

They compared a cold water immersion group to an active recovery group. They evaluated muscle mass and strength for 12 weeks in both groups. They specifically looked at how it affects the body immediately after training.

The cold tub sessions were within 5 minutes ending the training session. The active recovery group hopped on the ergometer for 10 minutes at a low intensity level.

It was found that cold water immersion reduced long term strength and muscle mass 😳

It also affected the activation of some proteins and satellite cells in muscular tissue up to 2 days after the strength session!! 🥶 Satellite cells are involved with muscle hypertrophy.

🧬 Muscle protein synthesis depends on adequate blood flow. Cold tubs obviously decrease blood flow, which in turn can affect muscle metabolism during exercise recovery.

💥💥Please note — this study specifically outlined cold tub IMMEDIATELY after. Multiple studies will show different results depending on where they are at in their programming.

This especially interests me as it relates in 2-a-days in athletics.

🧠 I’m going to dig into this deeper, as this challenges what I was taught in the classroom as well as on the field.
