She came to the realization that having a speech impediment motivated her achievements and did not prohibit her from achieving her goals. Her wise grandmother, Missionary Shirley Temple Hills, always said, “Open Mouths, Open Doors”! Alexis embraces that phrase whenever an opportunity presents itself for her to speak. After graduating from Texas Southern University in 2006 with a BBA in Accounting and working in corporate America for four years, Alexis knew she wanted more out of life. Having served on the Board for the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals as Treasurer in 2010, this confirmed her desire to give back to the community. Cognizant of the environment and witnessing the hope and inspiration instilled in the people by the Urban League Alexis was encouraged to use her gifts and talents to make a difference in today’s society. In 2010, Alexis became the mother of a beautiful little girl, Aliyah. Thrust into single motherhood as well as losing her job due to a company acquisition could have given Alexis a reason to give up. From corporate America to standing in line at the Food Stamp office, she had to find her inner strength. Due to the stress level that she endured her speech impediment worsened, making it difficult for her to verbalize her thoughts. Alexis went on interview after interview because she was now more determined to make a better life for her daughter and herself. In 2012 Alexis was hired as the Fixed Asset Accountant at a prestigious oil and gas company called Vantage Drilling where she is presently employed. Alexis obtained her Fitness Certification in 2011 and started her own Personal Training Business – AMooreFitBody. Her mission is to inspire all women to live a healthier lifestyle through fitness and spiritual development. She competes in competitive fitness competitions and is devoted to teaching and training women to lose weight in the healthy way. Alexis records fitness videos, “Get it In where you can”: Work workout with Alexis. These videos inspire working women to take advantage of every opportunity to become be active, even at work!
