Yesterday I had a beautiful encounter with a patient and her daughter.

A mother brought her 19 year old daughter to the office. I was my usual self telling them I could solve the daughter’s headaches, breathing and snoring.

I could see the mother’s eyes twinkling with excitement and gratitude above the edge of her mask. She kept saying she was so happy they were at my office and it just seemed so right and her daughter’s problems would finally be eliminated. They had called another ENT office and said from the initial call they knew they weren’t going there.

By the end of the visit the mother said X she felt they were led to me by God and she felt so good she felt she wanted to write all these good feelings down in a review. She then said it is just something about you. I can tell you were really loved as a child.

I told her I was very fortunate to have the parents I had and yes I was loved. I told her a story of my dad giving me affirmation when I was 60 years old and she began to weep.

It was a very special and beautiful encounter between all of us. Two souls realizing and expressing gratefulness for crossing paths.

Today patient with sleep apnea, headaches and Parkinson’s comes in for his first post op visit. So far, fewer headaches and tremors.

Amazing coincidence.
I had a patient having nasal surgery who also had a perplexing medical history.

She had an appendectomy a year ago and since has had severe abdominal pain, tremors and tingling of her extremities. She has been evaluated by several doctors and had abdominal scans with no answer. She is not in school and missed her volleyball tryouts for college.

While in surgery I was telling her story to the staff. A surgery rep was present and immediately says he used to work for a company that makes the staples used for appendectomies. There are different staples with different amounts of nickel. Some people have a nickel allergy. So we go tell the mother about it.

While we are in surgery she searched nickel allergy and the symptoms are the exact same as her daughter’s. That may be the answer.

The rep and I were amazed at what had to happen to get that to happen. I had to talk about her case. He had to be present. He could have been elsewhere or just not in the room when I was speaking. He had to have worked for a company that made the staples and been astute enough to to have learned about nickel allergy with abdominal staples.

You never know when everything aligns to get to an answer.
