I get asked all the time who is my favorite celebrity. I have worked on . Of all the celebrities I’ve had the privilege of working with, one man will forever hold a very special place in my heart. Willie Nelson. ❤️
Over the years, my career as a professional hair and makeup artist has blessed me with the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented people in the entertainment industry, from the CMA Awards to the Super Bowl. But every once in a while, someone comes along who leaves an impression on your heart that never fades.
For me, that person was Willie Nelson.
I had the incredible honor of doing Willie’s hair and makeup during Super Bowl festivities in Houston. I remember the smallest details about that day, even down to how he liked his famous braids. He wanted me to braid his hair while it was still wet. Such a simple little request, but for some reason, it’s a memory that has always stayed with me.
What I remember most, though, wasn’t doing his hair or makeup. It was the nearly two hours he spent sitting in my room, simply talking with me.
As I worked on other celebrities who were performing, Willie just sat there, sipping his soy milk, watching me work, and asking questions about what I did. He seemed genuinely fascinated by my profession. There was no entourage demanding attention, no sense of importance, no celebrity attitude. Just Willie, being Willie.
He shared the most fascinating stories about his life. We talked about his wife, who had also worked as a makeup artist, and their marriage. He opened up about some of the hardest chapters of his life, including his financial struggles, bankruptcy, and losing so much of what he had worked for.
One story I will never forget was about his friends coming together at an auction to save a beautiful family piano. I remember listening to him and thinking how extraordinary it was that someone who had experienced so much fame, heartache, success, and loss could still be so humble and genuine.
He wasn’t trying to impress anyone. He was simply sharing pieces of his life with me.
And that is what made him so special.
People often ask me, “Of all the celebrities you’ve worked with, who was your favorite?”
My answer has always surprised them.
It isn’t one of the beautiful women I’ve worked with. It’s Willie Nelson.
Without hesitation. Every single time.
Because after decades in an industry where fame can sometimes overshadow kindness, Willie reminded me that the most remarkable people are often the ones who make you feel the most comfortable, the most welcome, and the most human.
He treated me like an old friend, not someone who was simply there to do his hair and makeup.
And that meant more to me than he could ever know.
Some people you meet because of your career. Others you remember for the rest of your life because of the way they made you feel.
Willie Nelson will always be one of those people for me.
What an extraordinary life, what an extraordinary storyteller, and, above all, what a genuinely beautiful soul.
I’ll forever treasure those two hours and the stories he trusted me enough to share. ❤️
