With nearly 2,800 city employees offered buyouts and a hiring freeze in place, we know this could mean fewer public resources, longer wait times for services, and more families feeling the pinch.
For a community already navigating rising costs and limited access to essentials, these changes can hit hard. Thatโs why We Are One keeps showing up every Saturday โ making sure fresh food and support are here when other safety nets start to thin.
But we canโt do it alone. Your donation, time, or voice can help us keep the pantry stocked and the lines moving.

๐ Federal Cuts = Empty Shelves ๐
In March 2025, the USDA canceled two key programs that had been supporting food banks and schools across the country โ including in Houston.
โก๏ธ Over $1 billion in federal funding gone
โก๏ธ $11 million in cuts locally
โก๏ธ 20 million pounds of food lost
๐ The Houston Food Bank reports a 25% to 50% reduction in food supply โ week after week.
That means less food for families, longer lines, and harder decisions for nonprofits like We Are One.
๐ฌ The need hasnโt gone away. But the resources have.
Weโre still showing up every Saturday to serve our neighbors, but we canโt do it alone.
๐ค Hereโs How You Can Help:
๐ธ Donate to support weekly food distributions
๐ Volunteer your time and make a real impact
๐ข Share this post to spread the word and grow support
Together, we can fight back against food insecurity โ one box, one family, one act of love at a time.

Every Saturday, We Are One Free Food Distribution reflects the spirit of love, service, and unity in action.
We are deeply thankful for the **dedicated volunteers** who show up week after week with compassion and commitment. Your hands and hearts are the reason this mission continues.
Weโre also incredibly grateful for our strong partnerships with the Houston Food Bankand the Shrine of the Black Madonna. Together, we are reaching families across Houston who are facing food insecurity โ providing nourishment, hope, and dignity.
๐ It is an honor to serve our community.
๐ค It is a blessing to stand together.
๐๐พ And it is a privilege to make a difference โ one bag of food, one act of love, one Saturday at a time.
Even large sites like Crosby Churchโwho serve up to 500 people weeklyโhave gone without distributions due to drops in food bank deliveries.
At We Are One, weโre feeling this impact too. But weโre still showing up. Every week. Every box.
If youโve ever asked how to helpโnowโs the time.
