With nearly 2,800 city employees offered buyouts and a hiring freeze in place, we know this could mean fewer public resources, longer wait times for services, and more families feeling the pinch.
For a community already navigating rising costs and limited access to essentials, these changes can hit hard. That’s why We Are One keeps showing up every Saturday — making sure fresh food and support are here when other safety nets start to thin.

But we can’t do it alone. Your donation, time, or voice can help us keep the pantry stocked and the lines moving.

🛑 Federal Cuts = Empty Shelves 🛑

In March 2025, the USDA canceled two key programs that had been supporting food banks and schools across the country — including in Houston.

➡️ Over $1 billion in federal funding gone
➡️ $11 million in cuts locally
➡️ 20 million pounds of food lost
📉 The Houston Food Bank reports a 25% to 50% reduction in food supply — week after week.

That means less food for families, longer lines, and harder decisions for nonprofits like We Are One.

💬 The need hasn’t gone away. But the resources have.

We’re still showing up every Saturday to serve our neighbors, but we can’t do it alone.

Even large sites like Crosby Church—who serve up to 500 people weekly—have gone without distributions due to drops in food bank deliveries.
