Beth Minardi Hair Color

SHHHH...... A salon secret you probably already know. This takes place in several of the busiest, most famous salons in the world... USE YOUR PROFESSIONAL JUDGEMENT.

What I share here is never recommended by any lightener manufacturers. Try ONLY IF you'd like .. or not...and when several or many bleached highlight clients will be visiting your salon throughout the day. This has worked beautifully for me, and I share with you as a friend.. to try only if you'd like to

Here, we refrain from dumping out a bowl of lightener every time we start a new color client. This is NOT left to work more than through one work day, MUST NEVER BE MIXED IN METAL, and again, I recommend that you test this only when you feel confident doing so. After finishing a client's highlighting, take a look in your bowl of bleach. Do you have a lot left in there? If so, think about what I share here:

OK. A colorist I have known and respected for years highlights hair, with her staff, at one of NYC's most well-known color salons. The salon is BUSY. In the AM, she mixes a very LARGE PLASTIC Bowl with powder lightener and with her developer of choice. She mixes to the consistency she desires. This large bowl is kept, uncovered in the dispensary area. The amount she needs for her first highlight client is taken to her station. As other color professionals come to work, and are ready to highlight their client, they take a portion of this mixed lightener formula from the big bowl, They remoisten with their desired volume of developer to both create the consistency they work with AND to adjust developer volume a bit.. adding 40, 30, more 20, 10 or 5 volume developer.. to their desired mixture.

REMEMBER: All lightener must be kept moist in order to effectively work (lighten) the hair. As the salon is busy, this big bowl is used up as the day goes on. YOU don't need to mix a big bowl. Again, look in the bowl of bleach you just used on a client. Do you have lots left and do you expect another highlighting client today? Think about how you MIGHT freshen this lightener mixture later.. adding a bit more lightener and developer.. or perhaps, only a bit more developer. We are professional friends. SALON ASSISTANT TRAINING... I've posted my TWELVE STEP program. Thoughts to share with new assistants. It is best not to assume that schools teach students how to be a good salon assistant. THAT is up to you! But a bit of instruction you share as they first begin working with you will pay off in spades!

AND, PS: Do NOT assume that the shampoo skills which work well is school will suffice when an assistant cares for a paying salon client. Show them once.. and they will remember!
