Run with Me in 2023. Lessons from an amateur runner.

One of the first things a new runner needs is good running SHOES. 👟

1. Get fitted for shoes at a local run store.
2. Don’t try to skimp on shoes. A good shoe is worth it.
3. Here in Jacksonville, we have 1st Place Sport. There are several locations where you can be fitted and on Saturdays they offer a run clinic. Check it out.

1st Place Sports

I first started running about 10 years ago. I only wanted to be in better shape. My goal was to be able to run a mile. This felt like a marathon at the time. I downloaded the C25K app and followed along. I could barely run 30 seconds without stopping. I loved the app. It alternates between running and walking, increasing the intervals of running and total time. Plus I can listen to music and hear the prompts from the app.

As a mom an ARNP, 2020 was a lot! So 2 years ago I started year-long journey from my couch to my first marathon. I had “run” couple 5k races prior to this, but a marathon was not in the cards. I had a knee injury when I was 20 and my orthopedic surgeon told me I would never be able to run. After a year of chaos in the hospital and with virtual education for my teens, I decided I needed a goal. A BHAG (Big Harry Audacious Goal) and I signed up for a run club. RunforGod.com. I joined the Couch to marathon challenge! One year ago, I completed my first marathon at Disney. It wasn’t easy and with many ups and downs. So I guess I’m a runner now. Although I still don’t categorize myself as a runner. I’ve learned a few things over these 2 years and I thought that if you want to follow along, maybe I can encourage others to get off their couch as well.
