On this day eight years ago I quietly signed the lease on a little, ugly building, nestled under a big beautiful oak, in a neighborhood filled with folks who would change my life. Rejection, anger, fear, and uncertainty had been my companions after leaving a career I never thought I’d leave. I knew where my heart was leading me - to community, to authenticity, to freedom.

I could never have known that I was doing MUCH more than committing to a building on that day. And I had no idea the shape Yellow House - and my artistic practice - would take. A very small group of friends and my family were urging me on, but I was otherwise quiet - working to overcome insecurity, plenty of bad advice, and a healthy case of imposter syndrome. I was broke, nervous, but determined. So, not much has changed! Actually, everything changed.

It’s been hard, but magical and I thank all who have been on this ride - there are so many of you it makes me weepy. I also thank the haters and the naysayers who have nipped at my heels from the start - you, too, have provided fuel for this effort.

Today isn’t about commemorating anything loud, big, or sexy. I instead reflect on the seemingly mundane act of signing a lease, hands shaky with fear and hope - two feelings that truly have never left me.

Cheers to the moments that make us afraid, that humble us. Cheers to Yellow House. And despite the odds and the foolishness of this world, we’re still here, y’all! 💛

Putting down what I have in my head. I don’t like to draw my designs out bc it takes time from me actually creating, but it’s necessary bc I’m indecisive. This was one of my favorite sets. I was headed to Texas and feeling the need to feel golden. Thank you ladies for the inspiration! 2025 is going to be a better year for the business. I have an abundance, no one can take that bc they didn’t give it. Blessings
