PSA- don’t wear big earrings to a hair cut. You’d think I would know better 🙄

So yeah the hair is in a bun today. I wanted to cut some bangs to have something hanging around my face, and accidentally ripped out my own earring. Please learn from my mistake. That is all, have a great day.

3 mistakes that are ruining your curls:
- Not using enough water.
- Overwashing.
- Using products that are too heavy.
Small changes = BIG difference in definition, frizz, and overall health. Which one are you
guilty of?

Meet my good judy, Judy.
Judy loves doing her own color at home, and honestly? I respect that. Life gets busy, and the salon isn’t always realistic. But recently a shade went a little darker than expected, leaving a visible band of color that hadn’t faded after a few months.
Here’s what we did: First, we colored her new growth and blended the rest of her color up to the top of the band. Then came the magic 🪄a teasy light. Teasy lights concentrate brightness through the midlengths and ends, which is perfect for Judy because she’ll go back to doing her own roots at home. No worrying about overlapping onto highlights, and it completely broke up that band visually. 🙌
I don’t typically take on corrective color, but when I do, my goal is always to keep the process simple and keep the hair as healthy as possible.

Response to the question I got about 100 times on my last video lol

Note: when I say I had a lot of scalp irritation from this product, I do not intend to imply that the product is the problem. I have a super sensitive scalp and some skin allergies, which is why I’m on the hunt for something similar.

I have some products myself that I’m going to play around with, but I’m always looking to try new things. Let me know what your product recommendations are. Let’s play with some products and see what we can come up with :-)

**Please excuse my hair in this video. It was the end of the day, and it had been pulled back in a ponytail for a little bit, and I was trying out a new cream combination, which did not give me quite as much bounce or hold as the last one.

I tested 9 different product + technique combinations on my own curls- same application method every single time - and honestly?
The results surprised even me.
Here’s the full breakdown:
Clip 1 - Air dried, no product (your baseline - always eye-opening)
Clip 2 - Air dried with curl cream
Clip 3 - Diffused with curl cream ‹ MY NEW FAVORITE
Clip 4 - Air dried with soft hold gel
Clip 5 - Diffused with soft hold gel
Clip 6 - Air dried with strong hold foam
Clip 7 - Diffused with strong hold foam (my go-to for a long time)
Clip 8 - Air dried with strong hold gel
Clip 9 - Diffused with strong hold gel
What I noticed across ALL 9:
Air dried = more triangular
shape every time, regardless of product
Diffused = rounder, fuller
shape every time, regardless of product
So if you’ve been blaming your products or your cut for your shape... it might actually be your drying method.
Now here’s the part that genuinely shocked me - Clip 3. Diffusing with curl cream gave me my lightest, fluffiest, result of the whole series (and when you have this hair like mine, who doesn’t want more fullness). I almost didn’t include it because I assumed cream wouldn’t hold. Too soft. Too light. It’ll fall by noon, right?
Wrong. The hold lasted. The volume stayed. The curl pattern was chef’s kiss.
For a long time Clip 7 - diffused with strong hold foam - was my ride-or-die.
And it’s still a great result! But this experiment reminded me why I never stop learning, even after all these years behind the chair.
The biggest takeaway?
Product choice AND technique both matter. You can have the perfect product for your curl type and still not love your results if the application or drying method isn’t right for you. This is exactly why a personalized curl consultation isn’t a luxury
- it’s a game changer.

When someone comes in saying they want to lose a significant amount of hair, I always measure for donation whether they bring up donating or not. And sometimes we have enough for a surprise donation! It’s a feel good moment when you realize the hair you were going to cut off anyway is now going for a good cause.
And cutting this all off in the back gave us a great starting point for the slightly A-line bob she requested :)
Thanks, Samantha, for the surprise donation and for trusting me with those curls!
