Truly a labor of love. Blessed to be doing it for 25 years! Owning a small commission spa means i am available for my clients and employees 6 days a week from 9-8. It’s not glamorous but it is rewarding. It’s not making me rich but it is enriching my life. I do love it and the challenge. I pay absolute TOP commission in my town because i want to surround myself with career minded and driven people. As my employees you can earn up to 65% commission rates and bonuses. I cover scrubs, business cards, advertising, promotions, coaching and training and snacks. I even send my staff to spas for services for training purposes. I believe in giving back and want my staff to see the value of working for a commission salon and stay with me forever. A salon owner assumes part of your tax burden and handles all of the accounting and banking fees associated with daily business. We pay the rent or mortgage, all utility bills (our electric was $435 in June) city fees and licenses, i also provide professional insurance for my staff, liability insurance for the premises, workman’s comp insurance and the list goes on and on. So ya, i make 6 figures a year but the overhead will eat a third of that for sure. When making your decision to own a suite, booth rent or work at a commission salon know that there are pros and cons to all of them. Me personally, the most money i made was being a commission employee. I truly cleared 6 figures but i did work 40-50 hours a week. I also did one hour of social media, editing content and returning texts and call from clients a day. Do your research, Do what’s best for you and your lifestyle. *t
