“Text Neck Syndrome”
Are you working at a desk all day long, staring down at your monitor?
Working from home accommodations not as ergonomic as you are use to?
Do you spend multiple hours a day staring at your phone?
Do you have neck pain that is not going away?
Neck pain due to constantly looking down at your phone has been more evident in younger people and professionals over the past years. A healthy neck should have a “reversed C shape” curvature when looking at the neck from the side. People that have so-called “text neck syndrome” have lost that curvature, and sometimes it even starts curving forward, which will create more problems and will take longer time to heal.
In some cases you may start feeling numbness or tingling down the arm, having headaches, neck stiffness in the morning etc. These are all symptoms that we see regularly in the chiropractic office and we can help these issues.
Younger people spend hours and hours in front of the computer and playing on their phones daily. Many kids altogether spend 5-6+ hours a day looking down, which creates a significant amount of stress on the lower neck. The amount of pressure increases drastically the more you look down (see photo). Kids also grow really fast and it is better to seek care sooner rather than later when more problems develop and it will get worse.
What can you do?
It is really important to limit cell phone usage and try to keep the phone at eye level while using it. The same disciplines should apply to your computer monitor. Make sure it is elevated to accommodate. Seek chiropractic care and let us help you if you are experiencing any of these problems.

Working from home?
These are the things you should consider.
Many people have been working remotely from home over the past 2-3 weeks due to the pandemic that we are dealing with right now. You may be working on a laptop in your couch, at the dining table or in bed and may notice that it is not the same as working at the office where you have everything lined up perfectly (monitor at eye level, ergonomic desk and a nice office chair). Some may even start feeling the back pain or neck pain progressively been getting worse during that time.
Here are some things that you should keep in mind while working at home.
• Maintain good posture.
• If you are working at the dining table, try to put something (e.g. box or books) under the laptop so it is at eye level.
• Move your office chair from work to home (better if it has a good lumbar support).
• Have 90° angles for the knees and elbows (do not cross legs).
• Stand up every 45-60 minutes and move.
• You can do some easy home workouts and stretches.
• Go for a walk/run during lunch break.
• Eat healthy (fruits and veggies are crucial more now than ever)
• Stay hydrated (minimum 64 oz of water daily).
• Take your vitamins and minerals daily.

Chiropractic works for more than just your spine!
Do you have Plantar Fasciitis?
This woman has been a patient of ours for a few years now. She recently walked around NYC in flat sandals and developed an extremely bad case of Plantar Fasciitis. It was worse in the morning and after sitting, so bad she couldn’t walk. She told Dr. G and after ONE adjustment had about 80% improvement. Today was her THIRD adjustment and she feels it’s pretty much gone!
