The Wig Rockin Grandma

Ok Ladies! Chiquel Retail Shop update!

You really didn’t think this Wig Rockin’ Grandma was going to walk out of there without a wig, did you?? 🤣

Forty percent off… Between Gisselle (my favorite wig enabler) picking out the best wigs, and my dear friend who came along that kept saying, “Buy all of them!” Well… what chance did I really have? COME ON!!! 😂

So, let me introduce you to Miss Elena! 💛

Her name comes from Italian origin and means “light.” The moment I put on this Jon Renau Shelby in the gorgeous Venice Blonde (22F16S8), I knew she had to be Elena. She just has that bright, happy, light-up-the-room kind of personality!

Of course, Grandma couldn’t leave well enough alone. Last night I got out the trusty steamer and gave Miss Elena a little spa treatment to coax that hair away from her face. She’s now behaving herself and is definitely ready to take on the day!

I have a feeling Miss Elena is going to brighten more than just my day. Sometimes all it takes is a little confidence, a little laughter… and maybe just one more wig. (Don’t ask how many are in the closet… Grandma has stopped counting! 😉)

Well, even though I no longer have to do my hair every morning thanks to the wonderful world of wigs… it actually takes me longer to get ready!

Why, you ask?

Because choosing the Wig of the Day is a daunting task… especially when you have 50+ wigs!

Every one of my girls has her own personality. Some are classy, some are sassy, some are sweet, and a few wake up choosing chaos! 😂 Then you have to factor in my mood. Am I feeling s***ky? Professional? Shopping-ready? Church-ready? Cozy? Oh, the decisions!

This morning I must have pulled out at least 10 wigs before making up my mind.

And then…

At the bottom of one of my wig stacks was Miss Avery.

Light, happy, and just the right amount of s***k.

Perfect!

She’s especially fitting today because I’m heading to visit my favorite wig shop, Chiquel, and my sweet friend Gisselle. Miss Avery holds a special place in my heart because she was the very first wig I purchased there.

Now, here’s the real problem…

They’re having a 40% OFF sale this week.

As any responsible Wig Rockin’ Grandma knows, it would be downright irresponsible not to stop by and “just look.” 🤣

Pray for my wallet… and maybe don’t tell my hubby. 😉💕

Time for the official update from the Wig Try-On Party with my BFF! 🤣

Opal and Rosemary graciously agreed to be the guest stars of the evening… although getting them onto her head turned into an Olympic event!

Let’s just say there may have been some tugging, some laughing, a few cries of, “Wait! Which way is the front?!” and at one point I was pretty sure we were wrestling an octopus made of hair. 😂

But once we finally convinced those ladies to cooperate, they looked absolutely fabulous! 💕 Sometimes getting there is half the entertainment!

Who knew two wigs could provide so much cardio and comedy? The neighbors probably think we were filming a reality show called “Grandmas Gone Wild: Wig Edition!” 🤪

In the end, Opal and Rosemary did not disappoint… and thankfully, no wigs (or BFFs) were harmed in the process!

🚨 BREAKING NEWS FROM THE WIG ROCKIN’ GRANDMA! 🚨

Houston… we have a missing wig.

This afternoon, after a wonderful day shopping with my BFF, we came home for what every wig deserves… a good old-fashioned try-on party!

I proudly announced, “Wait until you meet Miss Meg! She’s going to be PERFECT!”

I skipped upstairs, opened Meg’s box…

Empty.

EMPTY!!!

Friends… my heart about stopped.

I started tearing through every wig box.

No Meg.

The suitcase.

No Meg.

The closet.

No Meg.

At this point I was convinced she’d been kidnapped by another Grandma with better snacks.

In full panic mode, I called the hubby in Kansas City.

“Honey… I need you to check something.”

A few minutes later…

“I found her.”

“WHERE?!?!”

“She’s hanging right here.” And sent a pic.

EXCUSE ME, MISS MEG?!?!

You BEGGED to come on this trip! You had me convinced you were packed! Then you pulled the old “I’m just going to stay home and see if Grandma notices.”

Well… she noticed.

Now I know exactly what happened.

Meg looked over at Opal and Rosemary and said, “You girls go ahead. I’ll stay here and supervise Grandpa. Someone has to make sure he doesn’t eat cereal for every meal.”

The worst part?

I have to face her tomorrow.

I just know she’s going to be hanging there with her fibers all fluffed up, giving me the cold shoulder.

“Well, well, well… look who remembered she owns me.”

I’m expecting at least a week of bad hair days as punishment.

Thankfully, Opal and Rosemary stepped in and saved the day. More on that tomorrow. Meanwhile Miss Meg is clearly planning her revenge.

If you don’t hear from this Grandma in a few days… send help.

And maybe a peace offering… preferably wig shampoo and a sincere apology. 🤣🤣🤣

Well friends, today is my last day in Chicago, and what a wonderful week it has been! ❤️

I spent 20 years of my life here, and this city will always hold a special place in my heart. Even though I’ve moved away, I still have friendships that have stood the test of time. Those kinds of friends are true treasures, and I feel so blessed to have spent time laughing, reminiscing, and making a few more memories with them.

Tomorrow it’s time to head back home to Kansas City…and back to my hubby! I have a feeling he might actually miss me. 😂 Although, if we’re being completely honest, he may just be counting down the hours until his personal cook returns home!

Today, Miss Opal is joining me for one last Chicago adventure. We’ll be taking it easy, enjoying some quiet time with my wonderful mother-in-law and my BFF before hitting the road tomorrow.

It’s been a beautiful trip filled with family, friends, laughter, and love. My heart is full…but I think it’s ready to go home. ❤️

Well… apparently Miss Kenzie forgot who she belongs to! 😂

She arrived absolutely determined that she was going to part on the right. I tried to convince her that this Grandma has been wearing a left part for years, but she wasn’t listening one bit!

So I gave in… for about five minutes.

Then my stubborn Grandma side kicked in. 😆

Out came the heat, the blow dryer, and a whole lot of determination. It became a full-fledged showdown—Grandma vs. Wig!

Well, I’m happy to report that Grandma won! 🥳

Miss Kenzie is now happily sporting a left part just like I wanted. It just took a little “Grandma persuasion.” (Hubby might call it being hard-headed… I prefer to call it persistent! 😂)

The moral of today’s story? Never underestimate a Grandma with a blow dryer, a little heat, and too much free time! We can accomplish amazing things! ❤️

I think Miss Kenzie and I have finally come to an understanding… but somehow I have a feeling she still thinks she was right. 😉

I have to admit… styling wigs has become almost as much fun as wearing them! This Grandma is always tinkering with something! 💕

Today is Family Day, and Miss Amelia is joining us! 💕

Let me tell you how incredibly blessed I was to marry into such a wonderful family. These folks are truly something special. They love each other—and everyone who joins the family—with their whole hearts. They are supportive, encouraging, and always there for one another in ways that are hard to put into words.

Since moving to Kansas City, I don’t get to see them nearly as often as I’d like, which makes every visit even more precious. I always look forward to the time we get to spend together.

Today we get to celebrate a very special graduation! 🎓 There will be hugs, laughter, memories, and plenty of time together. Those are the moments this Grandma treasures the most.

And, of course, Miss Amelia is ready to help me celebrate in style! 💕 Wishing everyone a beautiful day with the people you love.

Well friends… meet ROSEMARY! 🌶️🔥

Now before you start picturing a sweet little church lady who bakes cookies and waters her petunias, let me stop you right there.

This Rosemary is different.

This Rosemary showed up in a short, Pixie style with enough attitude to make my other wigs nervous.

The minute I pulled her out of the box, she looked at me and said, “We’re not wearing sensible shoes today, are we?”

I have to admit, I was a little intimidated. Most of my wigs politely wait their turn in the wig closet. Rosemary immediately pushed her way to the front and announced, “Move over, ladies. Grandma’s got places to be.”

She’s short.
She’s sassy.
She’s got texture.
She’s got volume.
And she’s got more edge than a middle schooler’s text messages.

I put her on and suddenly I felt like I should be riding a motorcycle instead of driving a minivan.

I walked past a mirror and thought, “Who is THAT?”

Rosemary looked like she knew how to use words like fabulous, darling, and absolutely not in the same sentence.

My husband took one look at her and immediately knew this was not a day to argue about where we were going for dinner.

The best part?

Underneath all that Cinder Heat and sass, Rosemary is actually a lot of fun. She’s the friend who talks you into trying something new, ordering dessert first, and taking the picture instead of hiding from the camera.

So if you see me out and about in the City of Chicago today looking a little extra confident, don’t blame me.

Blame Rosemary.

Well, good morning from this Wig Rockin’ Grandma!

This Grandma was delayed a bit this morning thanks to the rain, but we’re finally hitting the road and heading to the big city!

Today is all about comfort for the long drive, so my Raquel Welch 5-inch Top Billing topper is today’s hair of choice. She’s light, comfortable, and ready for the adventure!

The wigs are packed (and yes… Miss Meg made the cut and is coming along! 😊). I’ve also probably packed way too many clothes, and Hubby claims my cosmetic bag weighs at least 50 pounds! 😂

But hey… a woman has to look good, right?

Chicago, here we come! I can’t wait to share this adventure—and introduce a few of the ladies along the way.
