What a privilege it is to hold space for you. In your joy, in your pain, in your grieving, in your celebrating, in your mundane. No matter what life is bringing you at the time, thank you for choosing me to provide care for you and give you the relaxation and calm that you deserve so much. šŸ¤

It’s really hard to come on here and talk about inspiring things when life is anything but inspiring. I’ve worked the last 10 days straight between seeing clients and moving, and October has honestly been a really hard month for my personal and family life.

Instagram can be a highlight reel but I don’t think it’s necessarily because people want others to think their life is perfect.

I think it’s because we’ve been told that talking about what is hard in our life is attention seeking, or that things could be worse, or that you shouldn’t post things that bring negative energy or too heavy.

Be authentic, but don’t share too much. Have positive energy, but don’t be have toxic positivity. Post this way at this time.

It is impossible to please everyone, so I am not going to try.

I’d rather put my energy into helping you feel your absolute best, creating different facial protocols, learning new massage techniques, learning about new and different products, and into building a relationship with you in real life than trying to convince strangers I am worthy of being seen from a tiny blip of content on social media.

I’ll post here when it’s necessary or when I feel inspired to share, but I’m done posting for any other reason than feeling inspired or called to share.

But yeah, life has been hard lately. My mental health isn’t great. But you know what? There are two times when I feel like all is right in my world: when I have my babies in my arms and when I have my hands on your face. So you bet I am more than ready and happy to hold space for you and help you feel your absolute BEST.

TLDR: life’s hard, social media is not my fave, but my kids and rubbing your face is. 😘

On the eve of my first day in my new work home, I’m reflecting on all of the time I’ve spent at Elevate. It’s been amazing. My first space will always be so special to me, from committing to a lease before the building was even complete, to being the first one to move in while construction was still very much happening, to seeing it all come to life and be filled with the most talented people… I am reminded how fulfilling this journey has already been. I’m so grateful for all of the people that I’ve crossed paths with.

I believe the soul of Ritual will thrive in whatever building it is housed, because it’s not about the building, it’s about the space in my heart that holds space for you and whatever you’re needing.

However, everyone wants a lovely, comfortable space to receive… and that is what I have curated for you. I’ll be sharing the new location with you so soon. Can’t wait to open my doors tomorrow and begin this work that I love so much in a new space and new energy.

I am so blessed.

This cold weather has my skin pretty upset already! I really struggle with some redness in my cheeks, dryness, sensitivity, and dehydration and the cold dry weather is really not helping me out at all.

When the weather shifts, the products we are using might need to shift as well.

In the winter months when your skin is feeling a bit more dry and sensitive, here are a few things to try that may help support hydrated, balanced skin:

šŸ’§Hydration is key. Only using oils and focusing on moisture can lead to imbalance. Don’t get me wrong, I love my oils, just don’t forget that skin needs water and hydration underneath emollients like an oils iron balms. I like a hydrating mist more than something like hyaluronic acid (a lot of serums contain too much HA or even the wrong sized molecule and it can actually lead to dehydration and more sensitivity)

Don’t be afraid to layer products. If you deal with discomfort from dry skin, you may need to hydrate, moisturize, and even top with a more occlusive balm to hold in all that hydration and moisture.

šŸ’¦ Have a humidifier next to your bed that you run through the night. Once we turn the heat on, that warm air sucks out all the moisture in the air and our skin needs that water in the air to feel it’s best!

🧼 Skip your morning cleanse and in the evening cleanse your face with cool/tepid water out of the shower

Another thing to note: it’s not uncommon for your skin to feel a little more sensitive this time of year. If you have a facial scheduled, to ensure your barrier function is strong and to get the most out of your treatment, skip any retinoids or acids for at LEAST three days before your treatment, preferably 5-7 days!

Sometimes in life we grow out of things…
& I have to be honest with you.

I’m just not obsessed with skin care products like I used to be.

I still believe in skin care and that taking care of our skin is important. I just think it’s more about what we are in taking through food, drinks, media, etc. than anything we put on our face.

I have a serious issue with how the beauty industry is profiting off of our insecurities. It is a multi-billion dollar industry that profits hugely by telling you that you’re not good enough.

And that is NOT true.

Beauty is about so much more than having perfect glass skin, perfect hair, small pores, or anything else. Beauty is confidence, peace of mind, alignment, joy, authenticity, creativity. You are your most beautiful when you are feeling like your absolute best self, and that has very little to do with retinol or vitamin c or any other product you can put on your face.

Here is how I have shifted my practice over the years and how it will continue to change as I evolve as a skin therapist.

-more focus on massage & less focus on exfoliation
-more pressure point massage, manual lymphatic drainage, releasing tension in the facial muscles
-more hydration & balancing, less ā€œanti-agingā€
-more nervous system resetting helping you to FEEL good, because a healthy regulated nervous system will help you to glow from the inside out
-less masking & steam ~ more gua sha & facial cupping

When you come to see me, I feel confident that you will leave feeling like the glowy, sculpted goddess that you are.

Come experience these beautiful rituals for yourself. Schedule an appointment for your future self, and you will be so glad you did.

I can’t wait to hold space for you.

Many of you already know from the email I sent out, my time in Elevate is soon coming to an end. When it is time for one door to close, another door always opens, and as fate would have it, the door that opened is just feet away from my current space. Ritual Beauty will be moving to a new studio space at 325 E. 31st St. in one of the spaces above Made In KC/The Black Pantry/Prefix Coffee.

It’s a bittersweet move as I have really loved my space here— it’s been the perfect first home for Ritual. I’m eager to make my new space even more dreamy and comfortable for you and will share more as it comes together.

10/22 is my first planned day to be open in the new space. So if you have an appointment scheduled before that, it will be as scheduled at my current space in Elevate. From the 22nd on, I will give you detailed info before your appointment to find me in the new space!

Thank you for all the support and love throughout this crazy journey with Ritual Beauty.

With Love & Gratitude,
Julie
