My High School Clerical Practice teacher was Mrs. Terry Reno. after Posting the Santa window, she commented that the other window was pretty too. I realized I had not posted a picture of it. This is a picture of it before it was completed. I will try to take one and post it later. This is the ”Glass” window. Several years ago Trash and treasure had gotten a couple boxes of hand blown art glass in a damaged freight auction. The boxes looked like they had been sat on or at least partially crushed. In the boxes beneath layers of packing and broken glass were the spiral horns that are in the hanging light fixture. In the other box were the scarlet/orange globes that are in the tree below. Carl carried the boxes into the shop as he was unloading the truck and asked if I wanted them. Over the next few years I developed a vision of how I might use these odd pieces of glass. I kept thinking of a light fixture using the horns, and one day while taking out the shop trash I found a welding wire spool that became the perfect armature for the beginning of the light fixture. After collecting parts and pieces I still needed a hanging globe light fixture to build it on. I walked into Trash and treasure one Day and Jannette was pricing the globe fixture that you see in the picture. “I need that” I told her, and with the help of Noah Chase and a lot of zip ties, the chandelier was created. Years later a lady walked into my shop one day asking where I had gotten the Chandelier? I told her this story and she said “well that is my Uncle’s glass, I am quite sure!” I asked ”who is your uncle? She said “Dale Chihuly”. I guess the damaged boxes were being shipped to one of his exhibits and ended up in damaged freight. The metal frame of the tree was a T and T find as well. I decided to put the globes in the core of the tree and told Carl that I needed old Chandelier crystals to reflect light, so I could use it in my window. For several years there have been additions to the tree. After the passing of my sister, when my brother-in-law Don held the household auction, included in that auction was a box of curved glass panels that had originally been part of a ceiling light fixture. I bought them and put them around the bottom of the tree to create the flair you can see in the picture. This year I added more crystals given to me by Maryla Feldheim and again Noah chase helped affix a beaded garland on the spiral. The spiral glass lamp in the right side of the picture is another T and T find, but I found it on the back step of the barber shop as I was leaving to go home one day. Again the wooden crate had broken glass in the top of it and the metal stand had been bent pretty badly. But after emptying the box I discovered that there were extra globes and I had enough to assemble the lamp after fixing the metal stand. Penrod’s Greenhouse has provided Beautiful pointsettas for my windows for years and as you can see I owe a great deal of thanks to Trash and Treasure and Penrod’s and all those who have contributed parts and labor to make these windows possible. And A big Thanks to Terry Reno for teaching a great class that has helped me maybe even more than any other class I took in High School!! Merry Christmas!!
