Today was a hard one. I bought Salon Euphoria two years ago. I was painting window frames with my best friends and family. I’ll share more on the salon updates later this weekend possibly. But, after that fire, I made moves and found a temporary salon home. And it’s been just that another home. Kathy Voutilainen is the owner of SalonWorks that I have had my team and I working out of. When I was in search, I had many people tell me to reach out to her, and when I called she met me within an hour. Turns out we were both answered prayers for one another. Kathy had been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma just that February of 2023. It’s always weird when you can bond over having had cancer, I told her I was a survivor. I knew I needed to pick her salon, for several reasons but I did not know the true one at the time, ans the true value it held for each of us. I needed help and her light helped keep pushing during a dark time. She needed help with her salon, knowing it would be okay, and her husband and family could focus on her and her care too. She always felt like instant family though. She came by with funny reminders of our stories and found ways to make us all laugh. If she wasn’t telling me a story her team had great ones of her career. She made Wilder toys with her glowforge or she’d pick up the most thoughtful thing for him, or even my mom and I. Her generosity blew me away. It said lot to me to be able to have two different salons not only work under the same roof but thrive together. Our teams didn’t expect to be together this long. Nor did we know we’d go through so much life together in the last 9 months. Kathy passed on May 19th and today we celebrated her life before she was laid in to her final resting place. I was so grateful to hear more amazing stories of this incredible woman who saved me over the last year. She told me when we moved in she felt like she had a reason to keep going. Ultimately, Kathy was a fighter, a leader, a friend and an inspiration. It wasn’t me she’s was just built that way, to never give up and always find the good, and make situations magical feeling. That was her gift. I wish we hadn’t only met but we did when we needed one another the most. I’ll cherish her and the friendships I have now because of her, always🤍

The truth is getting old is a gift. This month marks 22 years of remission from stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma for me. It attacked me as a child at 14. Time passes and I feel like it’s been a different lifetime, but ask me something about it and I can go right back and remember the smells and how they were different, the pain in my bones, the day and emotions while shaving my head. Since then I’ve grown, by hardships, by surrounding myself with people that uplift me, learning from those who have learned the hard way.
After my salon had a fire, I felt like a victim.. again. But I had to pull myself up out of that darkness and remind myself it takes time but you will be a victor over this too.
Things that help me shift from victim to Victor mentality.

• Wait before making a big decision after something bad happens, I think 6 months to really see the sequence of events that follow. My friend calls this the “no tattoo rule”
• Cry and express all your emotions, if you don’t feel the worst how do you know what the best truly is.
• If you don’t know the answer, research the hell out of it and ask for help.
• Drink water, find natural calming adaptogens to take at night, and don’t turn to alcohol or an unhealthy vise to cope. Waking up with a clear mind is a reset even if the emotions try to take over.
• Hire a business coach or a life coach, it may seem unaffordable but the skills and support bring you back more than any therapy session I’ve sat in, and that ROI is priceless.
• It may feel like you have to throw yourself into work (as a child it was cheer) but make time to put your phone away, and embrace your love ones. When it was bad, my son’s “I love you sooo muches mommy” got me through.

So much love if you’re in the battle right now, it will change and every bit of success takes a physical and emotional growth process 🤍
