Go Big or Go Home...

What would it be? Would I be ready to go big or go home? A weird thing happened to me almost a year ago. I found out the building I had been leasing had sold and the new owner wanted me out. This threw me for a loop since there was no hint as to the building even being for sale and me not seeing anyone looking at the property was surprised then confused. My business neighbor, who happened to be renting from the same new owner hadn’t been ‘evicted’ so I procrastinated finding a new space. I kept visiting with her and still she hadn’t heard anything. I was dumbfounded, discouraged and just plain mad.
Knowing what was around the corner for her, we decided we would try to find something together and started our search.

There was a limited selection in Kimberly so we ventured into the Twin Falls area. I was not fond of this idea so, once again the discouragement started to take over. I wondered if this was the end of me having a salon and if I needed to send my clients to other hairstylist I knew would take care of them.

Finally, in January 2019, I got the 30-day notice and felt sick to my stomach...literally. It was like a bad dream. I kept thinking of different scenarios but was unsettled about them all. We looked at building after building but just couldn’t see ourselves in that space. Wanting to stay in Kimberly, it definitely limited our options. One day, after leaving a property after the 3rd time, the owner suggested us leasing another space they had just had come available. Come to find out, a tenant I know very well had given her notice and would be out by February 1.

Now was the time to decide...go big or go home. Would this be good for my family? For me? For the present and future? After talking to Steve about all options, we both agreed to expand and lease the new property that was now available to us. We bit the bullet, bought 3 stations, built walls and added additional plumbing for pedicure chairs. In the space, we are able to sublease, so we have 4 hairstylists, a massage therapist, an esthetician, and a shear sharpener. The back part of the building is rented by an artist. This gave me the same freedom I was hoping for. Be in the salon 2-3 days a week, keep up with my family and have available time to love on my grand babies. We have a lot to offer the residents of Kimberly and I feel very grateful for this opportunity. I’m not sure I could’ve asked for anything better.
