Balayage for the win! First time getting her hair highlighted. She wanted it to be close to her natural sunlights. I believe the key is lifting as high as possible in order to get a beautiful tone. As things lighten, most of us don’t get mad about a little brighter of a blonde. I would rather fade to lighter blonde than to a brassy underlying pigment. Classic balayage, y’all. Are we liking this soft bronde?

When it comes to highlighting with foil, stylists, how close to the scalp do you get? Clients, when you get a highlight touch up does it feel like you still have roots after? Stylist or client, it’s happened to us all. How does it happen? The section being foiled is too wide or thick. We may think we’re covering more surface by taking a quarter inch section. But the result is not great. No matter where it is on the head, take skinny, see through sections. Make sure you’re precise with placement. Make sure you know which direction (vertical, horizontal, diagonal) your foil needs to be placed in order to work smarter. 😉

Have you ever wondered why your layers hang weird? It’s all in the layering angle. Notice in the before photos the bubble toward the ends. Basically, there’s a “shelf” layer. It comes down to the angle in which you’re cutting. Usually when we’re wondering why our hair lays funky it has to do with how the layers are cut. Perhaps it looks good when you style it a particular way. But for any air dry styling it may not look right. We cut her hair to look great when styled and if she were to air dry with natural texture/wave.

From Hayley Williams orange to soft blonde. It’s not absolutely perfect but hair color can be a process when switching tone. Oof! Know the color wheel. And leave room for possibilities. Her hair was so bright when I gave her a haircut. We talked about touching it up. But when she came in for the color it had faded to more of a yellow orange than the Orang Orange. We didn’t use lightener. Just awesome Kevin Murphy Color. What do we think?!

Swipe to see the before! We touched up highlights and added some dimensional dark pieces. We like ribbons of color! She also likes more of a tooth look. So, I suggested we do a shadow root. We needed to shift her placement a bit and allow some depth to come through as it grows out.

This lovely came in for a hair cut and weight removal or debulking. I meannnn she has gorgeous naturally blonde hair and sooo much of it. Honestly, there was nothing wrong with it before our time together. But she felt it was getting too long and heavy. I got you girl! Follow up post on how I like to take weight out without thinning shears! Thinning shears have there time and place. For me, that’s almost NEVER in long hair. Ugh. Some times less is more. We trimmed the ends with shears since she wanted more of the blunt bob look. But she still liked the texture I’d give her hair with the razor. Mini Mom. Seriously twinning. Lovely little lady trimmed up her yummy long layers. How beautiful is she?! She wants Rapunzel hair so we used shears for the cut and kept her hair full.
