Natural Ozempic!

Protein and fiber both increase GLP-1. And this recipe has a lot of both.

GLP-1 is a hormone that is produced by L-cells in your stomach.

Chia seeds and basil seeds are packed full of soluble fiber which is important for producing GLP-1. We like to blend ours up in a coffee grinder so the whole seeds don’t just pass on through the digestive system. They will soak up a ton of water which will help with fullness as well.

Oats are also high in soluble fiber and beta-glucans. Both important for stabilizing blood sugar and feeding your gut bugs. Be sure to buy organic oats to avoid glyphosate.

Soak the oats and seeds overnight. Add the protein powder and possibly some more water in the morning. We also like to add organic berries to this microbiome friendly recipe. Add some Allulose or other sweetener of your choice if needed.

If you have an issue with overeating, eat a cup of this 30 minutes before you eat your meal. This will help proactively produce satiety hormones such as leptin and PYY. This is purposeful “spoiling your dinner” which will likely cause less calories consumed overall.

Stay healthy my friends,

Your gut bacteria transform fiber into a nutritional powerhouse!

The transformed metabolite is called Short Chain Fatty Acid (SCFA).

SCFA’s can:

1) Decrease inflammation

2) Improve your immune system

3) Improve mood by increasing serotonin

4) Improve satiety signaling (feelings of fullness) and stabilize blood sugar.

5) Decrease intestinal permeability (leaky gut).

Increase SCFA’s like butyrate, by eating more resistant starch, inulin, and soluble fiber.

Consume green bananas, cooked and cooled potatoes/rice, onions, asparagus, Jerusalem artichokes, garlic, chia seeds, basil seeds, berries, slippery elm, organic oats, organic lentils, organic chickpeas.

****lentils, beans and oats should definitely be organic due to high amounts of glyphosate used on these crops. Glyphosate will decrease gut health and we are trying to improve it by including these high fiber foods.

Really most fruits and veggies will help increase SCFA’s, but the above do a really good job.

What is your favorite high fiber food?

Stay healthy my friends,

If you are looking for a salt that is third party tested for heavy metals and microplastics, this is the brand we use.

Many brands are shown to have high levels of lead, arsenic and microplastics. Do a little research before purchasing salt if you want to avoid these toxins.

“Eat the rainbow”

The deep colors of fruits and vegetables make up polyphenols. These polyphenols help to feed our gut microbiome, or our healthy bacteria.

Healthy bacteria feed on fiber and polyphenols to help proliferate and create a healthy terrain in our gut.

A healthy terrain Is imperative for a healthy immune system, skin health, brain health, and of course, digestive health.

Sometimes, when we have low healthy bacteria and an overgrowth of unhealthy bacteria, or opportunistic bacteria, our body has an unhealthy terrain and digestion is compromised and metabolic chaos ensues. If you are in that boat, seeking out a professional to help you along the process to improve your gut health and balance minerals, can go a long why for improving your digestion and overall health.

This meal is often cycled into our meals at home because it is nutritious, simple, and easy to prepare in advanced and provide us with breakfast or lunch for the week.

My favorite way to make it is in our large cast iron.

1. Cook ground beef or pasture raised sausage in cast iron. Then remive from cast iron.

2. Chop organic veggies - here I used organic bell peppers, onion, organic asparagus, organic purple kale.

3 sauté in beef tallow - can add quality organic olive oil if you need more oil. Season with celtic sea salt as Desired.

4. Chop potatoes while veggies cook.

5. Remove veggies from cast iron, and cook cubbed potatoes in cast iron.

6. While potatoes cook, crack eggs in a bowl and blend. I love to use pasture raised chicken eggs.

7. Once organic potatoes are soft. Add the scrambled eggs on top of potatoes, then sprinkle ground meat and veggies on top.

8. Cook in oven at 325 for 20-25 minutes.

Comes out perfect! Middle is cooked as well!

This is full of protein, fiber, polyphenols, potassium, choline from egg yolks, and quality sodium and trace minerals from sea salt.

Great meal for anytime of the day.

Is high LDL cholesterol the cause of heart disease?

If you talk to a conventional allopathic doc, the answer would likely be yes. If it’s high we better get you on statins yesterday.

We believe that LDL is there to mitigate damage to the endothelial lining of your arteries. It’s like patching up beat-up drywall in your hallway with spackle.

Insulin resistance is more likely the CAUSE, not the high cholesterol.

Cholesterol is the firefighters, high blood sugar is the fire. Why blame the firefighters for the fire? They are there to mitigate the problem!

When you are insulin resistant, your blood sugar stays elevated longer. Glucose in your vessels are like shards of glass floating through your blood. Glucose that was supposed to be quickly transported into your cells, is doing the damage because it can’t get into the cell.

High blood sugar makes your blood more viscous and thick like molasses in January.

Thick blood is harder to pump throughout your body so that increases blood pressure.

High blood pressure plus high blood sugar (glass shards) creates the damage that the LDL needs to “patch up”.

Therefore, if you have high LDL AND you are insulin sensitive it is likely that the high LDL won’t be a driver of future heart disease.

We also will look at a clients hemoglobin A1c, HDL, Apo b, LPa, visceral fat, waist circumference, thyroid hormones, fasting insulin, C reactive protein, homocysteine, cortisol…ect.

If you have good levels of all of those markers, but have high LDL, it is our opinion that you likely don’t have to be on statins in order to protect yourself from atherosclerosis.

It is well known that saturated fat from a juicy steak with butter on it will increase LDL. But as long as you aren’t washing it down with a 36 oz soda and capping it off with cake and cookies, you will be just fine. Your HDL (“good cholesterol “) will take the excess LDL cholesterol back to the liver to be recycled since it wasn’t needed to patch up any damage in your arteries.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions.

Another side effect of statins?!!

The side effect in question may cause an increase in blood sugar and increase weight gain. Two effects that will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and all cause mortality. Interesting huh?

Research out of Cell Metabolism Journal done in 2024 found that statins significantly decrease GLP-1. The same peptide that people take Ozempic and Wegovy.

This was a 50% decrease in just 16 weeks and the trend line was continuing to go down!

How was this not headline news? This study was done a year ago.

So not only do statins decrease your COQ10 levels and increase insulin resistance, but they also decrease the peptide that regulates blood sugar and decreases appetite.

I am not telling you to get off your statin, but I hope that with this information you will do a little more research on your own if you are thinking about or currently taking statins.

If you need help with your cardiovascular and metabolic health without taking statins (or a lower dose), then shoot us a message and consider booking an appointment with us to see if we can help.

Let me know us you have any questions.

Healing, weightloss, muscle building, hormone balance; whatever your goal is, will take time.

It is a process, often times more in depth healing needs to be done in stages and will be done over the course of 12-18 months.

When expectations are realistic, progress will flourish because you have given your body time to heal.

We are here to help, but understand, we don’t have magic pills. If you are trying to use a magic pill, without addressing root cause issues, you are only putting a Bandaid on and will likely continue to have issues later on down the road. We give clients actionable tasks, aligned with what they need based on their bio-individuality.

Ideally we would see clients consistently every 1-2 months to help clients build on their previous consult and go over what has been working and what has been difficult for them.

Healing isn’t linear, but if you have someone to guide you through this journey, you are more likely to accomplish your goals and feel much better.

If you are experiencing negative symptoms or have some health goals, we would love to work with you!

With education in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, Dietetics, Exercise Science, and Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, we bring it all together to create custom protocols for each of our clients.
