So as many of you know, I LOVE DREADLOCKS! I love my extension dreads, and give admiration to those who can commit to beautifully maintained dreadlocks.
What many of you may not know are many of the things people think about dreadlocks are a false.
Myth: Dreadlocks are dirty....
NO! mistreated dreadlocks are dirty. Well Maintained dreadlocks that lock nicely are actually quite clean.
Myth: You can dread you hair by not brushing it.
EW! That's called neglected hair. If you love it, brush it. Dreadlocks are formed by back combing precise pieces of hair to form beautiful strands. Even when I have my extension dreads in I de-tangle them, if I didn’t they'd all form to one giant gross mess.
Myth: Only African Americans, or nationalities with like hair types can have dreadlocks........... my most aggrivating myth right here.
CAVEMEN AND NEANDERTHAL came from all background, we started there. They had dreadlocks, it protected they’re skin and scalp from the environment. on such note, I love this example by another dreadlocks enthusiast.
"Obviously the person who told you this has never seen anyone who is Asian, Indian, or Caucasian with dreadlocks. Dreadlocks actually look very nice on Asian, Indian, and Caucasian. Many people believe that dreadlocks actually were first worn by the Asian Indians that crossed over from Asia and Europe to Alaska and Canada..... Dreadlocks were also worn in the 1400-1500’s by Asian Emperor’s."
Be who YOU want to be. Love your hair, love yourself!

As a Cosmetologist its not just on us to cut or color a client's hair. I find its extremely important for us as stylists and hair experts to educate our client on how to best care for, improve, or repair they're hair. By working with your hairdresser, and I working with my client, we have a greater opportunity as a team to create beautiful hair.
Here are some of the most commonly asked questions I get at my shop.
Growing Hair Out
"What is the best way to grow out a short pixie cut to shoulder length?"
I have done this more times than i care to admit. I find the easiest way to manage and keep your hair looking clean, and stylable is to start focusing on cutting your perimeter. Neck line, blending around ears, shaping of bangs, and for some a light feathering to keep the bulk from taking over.
Healthier Hair Color
"I have color-treated hair that is prone to breakage. How can I prevent both that and color fading at the same time?"
Breakage and fading are great examples of over treated or very fine hair. Most times breakage is due to over processing of color, two many color changes, too much overlapping of color, personal chemistry effected by medication, or colors that contain metals.
Fading can also be affected by the same issues in addition to over washing, sun damage, or use of improper hair products.
Getting on a routine with your stylist can help greatly so your not having to process too much, and to keep you on the right products for the hair goals you have.
sulfate and paraben free shampoo and condition, with cooler water will do wonders to help both issues if your not already on that ban wagon.

Some Simple Day to day tips depending if your hair is thick or thing.
*Remember, cooler water the colder the better preserves color and shine (especially great if your hair tangles easily, or is brightly colored)
*You dont need to wash your hair everyday, good hair products are PH balanced and do not contain sulfates or parabens over time this helps regulate your hair allowing you to go longer between scalp scrubbings, and again preserves your color and shine.
*BRUSH YOU HAIR! its so regularly missed and is crazy important for keeping the ends of your hair healthy. I know curly girls, the brush makes you cringe, so brush thoroughly BEFORE you shower to get the most out of the experience without the fluff. Your natural oils you produce for your hair are better than anything you find in a bottle, its increases elasticity which helps prevent breakage.
