This picture of my Mom who’s is 81 (on the left) and her sister, my beloved Aunt Naomi who is 84 are my precious reminders that we are all going to age and what a gift that is...my beautiful Aunt has dementia and even in her current stage had the presence of mind at one moment during our visit to point to her hands and arms and say softly...”look at that”...she was referring to the aged appearance of her skin...I put my hand on hers and looked her in the eye and told her “Aunt Naomi you are so beautiful inside and out”...she smiled the sweetest smile and said thanked me with such genuine emotion. Sometimes we need to be reminded of our true beauty. My Mom and her sister are absolutely beautiful to me...their lives are written all over their faces and I cherish being with them and talking with them. In my profession we focus on superficial beauty...I make it a point to tell my clients of all ages how beautiful they are because THEY ARE! The most important thing I’ve learned in my career is that beauty has no boundaries, no specific design, no rules...it is completely and wildly original as are each and every one of us! I think it’s part of our job to encourage and remind our clients to view their own beauty as so much more than their simply their face...

It’s time for California to come up with a plan to reopen spas, salons, nail shops and massage therapists again. This industry has been devastatingly hit hard by closures. We’ve were also given some of the most strident mandates to implement when we were briefly reopened to comply with which we did without hesitation. We intrinsically understand the importance of safety and sanitation for our own protection and that of our clients. The backbone of this industry is built upon being able to work safely and we get licensed primarily based on our knowledge of how to sanitize to protect our clients. This means we have a built in safety component we’ve always applied in our businesses. Is there risk? Of course! But there is risk every time we step out of our own safe zone, at the store, the gas station and every other place we must go to live even our reduced access lives. If we don’t go back to work what have we protected by all our sacrifices when businesses in our industry will have been decimated and there is nothing left to return to? We all get that safety is a concern, we take it very seriously, but what in life is without risk? Absolutely nothing. We can however work very hard to mitigate the risk through our training, our knowledge of sanitation and our already prescribed practice of doing these things in our businesses. Our clients are and always have been our priority and we will gladly take extra measures to keep them safe. We need to recognized as the professionals we are and we need help now. Let our clients decide if they trust us and feel safe in our care, you’ll find the vast majority will run not walk to our salons, spas, nail shops and massage therapists because they already know they can!!

I think a lot of people need some time to catch their breath, think about their life and if it’s where they want it to be, decide what’s next and let go of things that no longer work in our lives. It’s a period of realignment that can feel heavy in our hearts. That’s a lot on top of what’s already happened this year. It’s a good time to find your cocoon of comfort and take refuge...your mind needs it, your heart needs it and your body needs it. You need you right now...taking care of yourself is always important...hope you’ll feel some much needed renewal soon... 💋
