Source: Washington Post - “The acting director of the CDC has delayed publication of a report showing the covid-19 vaccine cut the likelihood of emergency department visits and hospitalizations for healthy adults last winter by about half, according to scientists familiar with the decision.
The move has raised concerns among current and former officials that information about the vaccine’s benefits are being downplayed because they conflict with the views of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been an outspoken critic of the shots.
The delay, which has not been previously reported, offers a window into how vaccine policy is being shaped behind the scenes, even as the Trump administration has sought to soften its public posture on controversial actions ahead of the midterm elections.
Between September and December last year, healthy adults who received the vaccine reduced their likelihood of emergency department and urgent care visits by 50 percent and cut the likelihood of covid-associated hospitalizations by 55 percent, compared with those not receiving a 2025-2026 vaccine dose, according to a summary of the report.

I sat down with Governor Josh Shapiro to discuss why Pennsylvania joined a multistate lawsuit against CDC, HHS, and RFK Jr. following the removal of independent vaccine experts from ACIP and the reduction of the federally recommended childhood schedule from 17 vaccines to 11.
The vaccines removed from universal recommendation include:
• Rotavirus
• COVID-19
• Seasonal influenza
• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B (including the birth dose)
• Meningococcal
• HPV (now reduced to a single-dose recommendation)
These are longstanding, evidence-based protections against serious infectious diseases.
When vaccines are shifted from universal recommendation to “shared clinical decision-making,” it creates real-world consequences:
– Will insurance still cover them?
– Will pediatric practices be reimbursed?
– Will parents interpret the change as a safety signal?
– Will uptake drop?
Ambiguity lowers vaccination rates. Lower vaccination rates increase outbreaks.
In our interview, Governor Shapiro emphasized that Pennsylvanians deserve accurate, science-based healthcare information. His October 2025 Executive Order protected continued vaccine access and insurance coverage in Pennsylvania, established independent state guidance grounded in medical science, and positioned the Commonwealth to launch a state vaccine-for-kids program if federal protections erode further.
Public health infrastructure matters. Clear guidance matters. Evidence matters.

Today I was honored to sit down with Governor Josh Shapiro to discuss Pennsylvania’s decision to join a multistate vaccine lawsuit against HHS, the CDC, and RFK Jr.
Here’s what’s at stake:
• The elimination of universal recommendations for longstanding, safe vaccines• Increased barriers to access and insurance coverage • Growing confusion among families• Declining vaccination rates• The unlawful firing of the independent vaccine experts who served on ACIP
Public health depends on clarity, stability, and evidence-based guidance. When long-established vaccine recommendations are suddenly shifted without scientific justification, it creates chaos and confusion for families and providers.
And when independent experts are removed from the advisory process, trust erodes.
Pennsylvania joined this lawsuit to protect science, protect access, and protect families.

Source: NY Times - The EPA on Thursday repealed the endangerment finding, the scientific determination that gave the U.S. government the authority to combat climate change.
The finding, a 2009 scientific conclusion that greenhouse gas emissions pose a danger to Americans’ health and welfare, was based on more than 200 pages of research and evidence. President Trump, who has called climate scientists “stupid people,” claimed it “had no basis in fact.”
The rollback of the endangerment finding is expected to increase U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 10% over the next 30 years, according to the Environmental Defense Fund, an advocacy group. The added pollution could lead to as many as 58,000 premature deaths and an increase of 37 million asthma attacks between now and 2055, the group said.

Source: Medscape - “Almost half of US CDC databases due to be updated at least monthly were instead paused for significant time periods during 2025, the vast majority relating to vaccination-related topics, a new study reports.
The authors - led by Janet Freilich, a professor of law at Boston University School of Law - examined the metadata for all public CDC databases on October 28, 2025. They found that of 82 databases updated at least monthly, 46% had unexplained pauses.
Most of the 38 databases covered data relating to vaccinations for influenza, COVID-19, or respiratory syncytial virus (RSV); one monitored RSV disease burden, another effectiveness in infants of nirsevimab, a monoclonal antibody treatment for RSV, and another on respiratory illnesses treated in the emergency department. One non-infectious disease database - the Provisional Overdose Death Counts - was also paused, according to the study, published online January 26 in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
