Hey Queens!

Are you using the right brush for the job?

When you are:

•Detangling- it’s best to use a paddle brush, vent brush or detangling brush made with soft or firm rubber teeth to safely remove tangles with out causing damage to the hair shaft

•Styling- use a soft to firm boar bristle brush to help manipulate and control the hair into the shape or desired hairstyle

•Smoothing- a mini brush or regular sized soft boar bristle brush is best for smoothing fly aways and creating a neat finished look

No matter your hair type or texture, make sure you are using the right brush for the job 😉

Instead of greasing your scalp, oil your scalp.

💎GREASE IS NOT MOISTURIZING. Grease clogs your pores and slows down your hair growth rate. Grease causes debris to cling to your hair resulting in you having to shampoo your hair sooner then you’d like. Grease weighs your hair down and restricts movement. Grease makes dry scalp worse and is very difficult to remove from the hair and scalp.

Instead of taking on your entire head while blowing drying, blow dry one section at a time.

💎Separate your hair into 4-6 sections before blowing drying and tackle one section at a time. This technique helps to lessen tangles and breakage.

Instead of laying on your hair before bed, cover your hair with a satin bonnet or scarf.

💎Tuck your satin bonnet or scarf underneath your pillow or pillow case in the mornings so that you won’t forget to cover your hair at night. Your cotton pillowcase will absorb your hair’s moisture so even if your hairstyle is no longer fresh, your hair still needs protection at night.

Put your hair on a healthy schedule.
Find out what healthy hair practices work best for your hair type and hair goals.
Take pictures of your hair during your journey so that you can monitor your progress. This can help you stay motivated and consistent with your routine.
Taking pictures can also help you during the trial and error phase of deciding which products and techniques are best for you.
This is not a “one size fits all” type of journey, so make sure you do your research and schedule an appointment with a professional cosmetologist who can help you put your hair growth plan together.

Here are a few bad haircare mistakes that come up during my consultations with new clients.
Check the list to make sure you’re not practicing any of these bad hair habits.

#1. You must get your hair trimmed when it’s needed. (Because who wants long, stringy hair?) It can be easier to keep track of when you need a trim by putting your hair on a schedule like every 8-10wks or so, however if you’re not handling your hair properly in between time, you may need to trim it more often. If you don’t trim your hair, your split ends will travel up the hair shaft, turning the once needed trim into, now you’re needing a hair cut.
#2. Cover your hair before bed (even when your hair isn’t done). The cotton pillowcase and sheets will absorb all of your hair’s moisture causing it to become dry and brittle. Protect your hair at night with a silk or satin bonnet or scarf.
#3. Stop using hair grease to oil your scalp! Grease has petroleum in it. It’s heavy on the hair, causes clogging of the pores on your scalp, keeps moisture from penetrating the hair shaft, stunts your hair’s growth, it’s extremely difficult to wash out and it can also cause or worsen dandruff. Use a light oil by hand or spray instead if your scalp or hair feels/looks dry.
#4. Shampoo your hair at least 3 times on wash day. That’s right.. 3 TIMES! During the 1st shampoo, there’s usually very minimal lather because of the product and oil build up on our hair. During the 2nd shampoo is where you should see more lather from your shampoo and this is when you begin to actually clean your hair. The 3rd shampoo is to ensure that all products and debris on your hair and scalp have been thoroughly cleaned and removed. Now you can safely condition. 👍🏾
