A little life update..

I recently accepted the head volleyball coach position at Pleasant Ridge High School, and I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter! Coaching has always been a huge passion of mine, and I’m so grateful to be able to continue doing what I love while still serving all of my amazing clients.

With volleyball season running mid August through October, my salon schedule will be changing. Most days, I’ll be taking my last appointment around noon so I can leave the salon by 2-2:30 so I can make it to practices and matches.

Because of the shorter days, appointments will fill much faster this fall. If you already know you’ll need your color refreshed, extensions moved up, or holiday hair, I highly recommend getting your appointments on the books now so you can snag the days and times that work best for you.

I’ll also do my best to open select Mondays and Saturdays throughout the season to help accommodate later appointments. Those extra dates will be announced at the beginning of each month, so be sure to keep an eye on my page!

ONE YEAR OF FIFTH & BLUE 🩵

A year ago, I took a leap and opened Fifth & Blue, and I honestly couldn’t have imagined what this first year would become.

To every client who has trusted me with your hair, recommended me to a friend, shared my posts, or simply cheered me on -thank you. Your support has allowed me to do what I love every single day, and I’ll never take that for granted.

This year has taught me so much. Not just behind the chair, but as a business owner and as a person. I’ve learned to trust myself, embrace the challenges, celebrate the wins, and understand that there’s always room to grow.

I’m committed to continuing to learn, perfect my craft, and bring the best experience possible to every appointment. This is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to see what year two has in store.

Confession time: I’ve turned my own blonde hair green before. 🙋🏼‍♀️

Ever wonder why blonde hair turns green after swimming?

Contrary to popular belief, chlorine isn’t actually what turns your hair green. The real culprit is copper and other metals found in pool water. Chlorine oxidizes these metals, causing them to bind to the proteins in your hair. Since blonde, highlighted, and light-colored hair is more porous, it absorbs the metals more easily—leading to that unwanted green tint.

✨ How to prevent it:
• Wet your hair with clean water before swimming (dry hair acts like a sponge!)
• Apply a leave-in conditioner or hair oil for a protective barrier
• Wear a swim cap when possible
• Rinse your hair immediately after swimming
• Use a swimmer’s shampoo or clarifying shampoo regularly

If your hair has already turned green, don’t panic! A swimmer’s shampoo or clarifying treatment can usually remove the buildup and restore your blonde.
