Harrods is trialling a new scheme which allows H Beauty customers to recycle typically ‘unrecyclable’ cosmetics products – a first of its kind for a UK retailer.
The MyBeauty Recycle & Reward programme accepts used nail polishes and fragrances, which are two types of hazardous beauty products normally destined for landfill.
Other beauty products that can be dropped off include make-up compacts, mascara, eyeshadow containers, shampoo, lotion pumps, and skin care and vitamin bottles.
Concealer, foundation, eyeliner pencils, lip products and travel minis can also be deposited.
The luxury department store is working with recycling partner MyGroup on the pilot scheme.
It will run for three months at Harrods’ Milton Keynes branch and then be reviewed.
How does Harrods’ beauty recycling scheme work?
Pulling together a recycling scheme that accepts any used brand products – especially those that contain hazardous materials – is no easy feat.
It is a complicated process, due to the various bottles and parts that will be dropped off, which is why the company has partnered with MyGroup on the project.
Products handed in by customers to the recycling bins in-store should be as empty as possible, but MyGroup’s method will remove any remaining residue.
“When we receive a box back from Harrods, the entire contents are classified as hazardous,” a spokesperson for MyGroup said.

I’ve been using this product consistently for approximately two and a half months. If you look at the pictures you’ll see the results. My eyebrows grew in length so much, I had to trim them every 3-4 weeks! A couple of years ago, I had my left eyebrow over waxed. I saw the white bulbs at the root. When that happens, it’s done. They're gone. I've used three different growth serums before Kosas and did get some growth, but not in that area. I see stubble! I'll take it.

The ingredients include pantheon (pro-vitamin B5). When applied to hair, it takes on a pro-vitamin form converting to pantothenic acid, which can pe*****te hair fibers to add strength. Also included are peptides which are amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. Hair is 90% protein. And hyaluronic acid for moisture and keratin which is absorbed in the cuticles of the hairs and add volume.

There’s the saying, “you get what you pay for”. In the beauty business, I’ve found you can also pay for pretty packaging, a celebrity name, and hopefully some great ingredients. Versed once again proves that great product, with clean, powerful ingredients can be had at a very reasonable price. At $17.99 for a 6-ounce tube! Practically unheard of. I have a mild case of Keratosis pilaris on the back of my upper arms and my upper legs. I've tried many products from retinol, and exfoliators to medium-range chemical peels. They've helped to vary degrees, but sometimes my skin gets even more irritated. I was excited to use this lotion, as its retinol is encapsulated. It allows the powerful exfoliation to pe*****te deeper and not irritate. I was very pleased with the results. As you can see in the accompanying pictures. My arms and legs haven't been this consistently smooth in years. This is a lotion, I prefer creams, but I love the results. There's no added fragrance, it absorbs immediately with no sticky residue. Highly recommended.

Kosas’ newest product introduces us to a different way of applying serum and having our skin drink it up. The company claims this delivery system makes the product more bio available. I love mists and spray on toners, this is my first spray-on serum and I’m all for this trend, especially this skin-changing one. I was tempted to use this all over and not just on my facial skin. It’s refreshing and so hydrating. This was the perfect time for me to try this product, as we’re transitioning from heat to cooler weather. My skin quickly absorbed this blend of peptides (amino acids that plump and help protect the moisture barrier), probiotics to aid the flora on the skin), Artemis is flower extract (soothes), and hyaluronic acid (hydrates). There are a lot of benefits packed into this clean, vegan formulation. I usually like a weightier serum fit my skin, but this was a lovely finish. My skin felt plumper and stayed that way for hours, with or without follow-up products. I was lured by the comforting formula and wanted to spray it on throughout the day. It's best on freshly cleansed skin, so I used it morning and night after cleansing and exfoliating. The major benefit I loved was calm skin and it was a cumulative effect. It took my redness right down. Look at the picture. No filter, no makeup! I would normally never want my naked skin out there, but it looks normal! The name Kosas comes from the philosophy of the five interconnected layers, or “kosas” of the self: the physical, energetic, mental, intellectual and soul. This product is a beautiful fulfillment of this. I've been an esthetician for almost 30 years and I love the discoveries I'm making for my and my client's skin. Go get this for yourself!

As a skincare professional, I’ve mostly worn my hair back in a chignon or ponytail to keep it out of my way. More times then not, I leave it up even after work. I have color treated, shoulder length hair. It’s not as full as it was when I was younger. It’s somewhere between wavy and straight. If let it air dry, there’s no shape or form. It does well if I blow it out, but it’s time consuming, and does take a toll on my hair. I’ve used dozens of the microfiber turbans through the years. I’m not found of microfiber beyond its use to clean. Because of its structure, it “hooks” onto dirt and dust, great for mopping floors and wiping counters. Those same hooks pull on hair. Not what one wants when hair is wet and more fragile. As far as moisture wicking, I’ve found no turbans that fulfill that promise. Until now.

After washing and conditioning, I gently squeezed out the excess water and placed the turban on my hair. After half an hour, (plenty of time for makeup application or masking) I removed the wrap and was amazed. The wrap was damp and my hair was dry, not the other way around as was my experience with microfiber. I just ran my fingers through to zhuzh it up. No towel, hairdryer, or brush!! It was soft and slightly wavy. That’s a first for me.
