PLEASE READ!
This is the reason why I discourage all of my clients from purchasing styling products, shampoo or even color from Amazon, Walmart, Smith’s, etc!
1) they are not authorized retailers. Only salons are authorized retailers of salon products. So what does that mean? It means that Walmart or Amazon purchases these products when they have been shelved past the allotted time they’re allowed to be stored on shelves, they’re past their expiration date, the manufacturer made too much product for how much they’re selling and it’s been on shelves/in storage for too long. Would you buy food that’s been sitting on shelves for months past its allotted time just because it’s cheaper then put it into your body? Probably not. Because it’s not safe, healthy or smart.
2) Does it make any sense to spend hundreds of dollars on your hair and then buy discounted shampoo to save money and then potentially ruin your hair essentially throwing away the few hundred dollars you just spent? Of course not!
3) Would you buy a brand new Range Rover and then only put liability insurance on it or would you get full coverage?
4) I give ALL of my clients the option to purchase product from me at a discounted rate! I care way more about my clients being able to take care of their hair at home and protect the work I just did than I care about making a few dollars charging full retail price on product! It also makes my job easier when I see you at your next appt knowing your hair doesn’t have built up chemicals, metallic salt deposits or mineral deposits in the hair! These build ups react negatively with lightener/color which will cause the lightener to liquify, over process the hair or cause the lightener/color to not work at all!
5) Lastly, the absolute WORST place you can purchase shampoo is somewhere like Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, etc. Ask yourself WHY a store like Ross has a shampoo on their shelves for $4.99 that is originally $30? It’s not because they just happen to have a great relationship with the manufacturer of that shampoo and the manufacturer wants to basically give their product away!
Short story: I had a client message me to tell me how happy she was she found the shampoo I recommended for a fraction of the cost at a retail store. I removed the name of the store for legal reasons, but let’s just say this store is a “dress for less” type of retail store. I immediately facepalmed and warned her of why I strongly discourage purchasing product there, but told her to let me know how she likes it. The next day, she told me that she hated the smell and thought it had a weird texture. She also said that she felt like her toner was completely gone. I asked her to stop by the salon and bring it to me. The SECOND I opened the bottle, I KNEW that something was terribly wrong!! I also looked at her hair and yes, her toner was completely washed out, which shouldn’t happen with the shampoo I recommended. In fact, that specific shampoo is amazing at PROTECTING color! Anyway, the shampoo smelled HORRIBLE! I squeezed some out into a bowl and not only was it clumpy and watery, it was also slightly green!! The shampoo is originally an ivory color. I asked her if I could remove the label because this shampoo doesn’t have a taped on label. It’s actually printed directly on the bottle. Sure enough.... underneath the label, there was a bunch of text in Chinese. CHINESE. This store had literally been selling counterfeit product. I immediately told her we need to clarify her hair so we could tone her again and get that OUT OF HER HAIR! Her hair was rinsing out green and orange. I had to do a build up remover treatment and clarifying treatment to ensure this was gone from her hair. This $7 shampoo she bought (originally $22 for that size bottle) ended up costing her an extra $125 to do two treatments and a toner refresh to correct the damage this shampoo just did 1 day after having her hair freshly done.
Moral of the story: save yourself time, headaches and essentially more money by just buying the proper product to begin with. It’s not worth having to keep toning/coloring hair that’s fading with improper product, having to spend money on treatments to remove whatever is in this stuff, or having to spend money on a color correction to fix whatever damage these cheap products are doing.
“Can you show me the product you’re using so I can get it off Amazon?” It’s a cute question from our clients trying to save money – but next time they do that please show them this amazing visual from our girl : “🚨Please DO NOT buy professional products on Amazon, Target, or Walmart etc.... Do you really think a $3 shampoo is going to help your hair❓Or after spending $100 plus on a coloring service at the Salon will help protect your color❓Have you ever thought that buying a professional product at Rite-Aid is actually the same product inside❓Can Walmart products tell you better than your Stylist what exact products you need for your hair ❓The answer is NO! Also, there are some clients out there that get their hair professionally done that constantly complain about their hair being frizzy, maybe not the healthiest, hair fades fast, etc... 🚨Please listen to your stylist! They know what’s best for your hair. The products that are professional will last 2-3 times as long if using it right and they only want the best for your Hair! ✨TAG a FRIEND✨ ”
