Menopause isn't just a hormone change—it's a whole-body adaptation down to the cellular level.
And guess what?
"Every one of your trillions of cells relies on the fluid that surrounds it"

When we hear the word *menopause*, we often think about hot flashes or the end of menstrual cycles. But what is really happening is a complex physiological transition that affects nearly every system in the body.

As estrogen levels fluctuate and eventually decline, many women notice changes such as: Brain fog, Sleep disturbances, Fatigue, Increased inflammation

These changes are occurring at the cellular level.

Every one of your trillions of cells relies on the fluid that surrounds it—called **interstitial fluid**. This fluid delivers oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and immune cells while carrying away metabolic waste and excess proteins.

The lymphatic system is responsible for maintaining that environment.

Think of it as the body's fluid management and cellular housekeeping system. It helps regulate tissue fluid balance, returns proteins and fluid back to the bloodstream, transports immune cells, and clears cellular waste products from nearly every tissue in the body.

As we age, several factors—including hormonal changes, decreased muscle activity, chronic stress, poor sleep, and inflammation- influence how efficiently our systems function.

While Manual Lymphatic Drainage is not a treatment for menopause, it is a gentle, evidence-informed therapy that supports the normal function of the lymphatic system. By encouraging healthy lymphatic movement, many women report feeling less swollen, more relaxed, less foggy, and better able to manage the physical changes that accompany this stage of life.

I often tell my clients that the lymphatic system doesn't work FOR one organ—it works WITH nearly all of them.

Supporting lymphatic function isn't about chasing youth. It's about creating the healthiest environment possible for your cells to do what they were designed to do.

Because healthy cells build healthy tissues.
Healthy tissues support healthy organs.

And healthy organs help us continue doing the things that matter most—thinking clearly, moving confidently, playing with our grandchildren, recovering from life's demands, and aging with strength and resilience.

As someone walking through this season myself, I find that perspective incredibly encouraging!!!!!

Our bodies are adapting—not failing—and they deserve support every step of the way. 💚

Why MLD may not be your first stop for chronic swelling — Kind Body Wellness 07/07/2026

Ever wonder your first step should be if you chronic swelling?
Not the swelling you get after a surgery or an injury,
but the kind that sticks around or even seems to keep getting worse year after year?
Then my latest blog post is for you

Why MLD may not be your first stop for chronic swelling — Kind Body Wellness Chronic Swelling Isn't Always a Lymphatic Problem If you have chronic long term swelling (also called edema ), your first step should be talking with a healthcare provider who can evaluate the cause of your symptoms. Don't fall for fades, do not get deep incisional drainage post surery. Your safety and recovery matter. THis is painful and increases your risk of infection, dyhydration of the tissues and fibroisis!!
I have heard from too many clients recently that have had this type of work done in the past. IT is not safe for a masage therapist to reopen your incisions this is out of our scope of practice.

🚨 Post-Surgical Patients: Protect Your Healing Process 🚨

Not all lymphatic drainage techniques are created equal.

Improper post-surgical lymphatic work—especially techniques that involve manipulating, opening, or draining via surgical incisions—can increase the risk of complications, including infection, delayed healing, dehydration, and fibrosis (scar tissue formation).

⚠️ Surgical incisions should NEVER be reopened or drained by anyone other than your surgeon or an authorized member of your medical team.

Many patients are unaware that invasive procedures involving incisions may fall outside the scope of practice for massage therapists and other non-medical practitioners, these practices are illegal in most states including Missouri and Kansas

Before allowing anyone to perform post-operative treatment, ask:
✔️ What training do they have in post-surgical care?
✔️ Are they working within their licensed scope of practice?
✔️ Has your surgeon approved the treatment?

Your recovery is too important to leave to social media trends or unqualified providers.

Choose only certified manual lymphatic drainage therapists.

When it comes to your surgical incisions, trust your surgeon and medical team. Your safety should always come first. 💙

🚨 Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is NOT massage! 🚨

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that MLD and massage are the same thing. They are actually very different techniques with very different goals.

💆‍♀️ Traditional massage involves kneading, rubbing, tapping, and manipulating muscles and deeper tissues. It often increases circulation and brings more blood flow to the area.

💧 Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), on the other hand, uses gentle, precise movements applied to the superficial layers of the skin and fascia. The goal is to stimulate the lymphatic vessels located just beneath the skin and encourage the movement of lymphatic fluid.

The only thing massage and MLD truly have in common is that both are performed with the hands—but each serves a unique purpose. Understanding the difference can help you choose the treatment that best meets your goals.

With MLD:
✔️ We are not working muscles
✔️ We are not addressing trigger points
✔️ We are not trying to create heat or redness
✔️ We are not increasing blood flow to the area

Instead, we're supporting the lymphatic system—the body's natural drainage network—where swelling, fluid retention, and waste removal occur.

✨ What about our lymphatic massage sessions? ✨

This treatment is a blend of Manual Lymphatic Drainage and traditional massage techniques. While it does not move as much lymphatic fluid as a dedicated MLD session, the fluid that is moved is directed in the proper anatomical pathways toward the nearest lymph node clusters.

This approach allows us to:
✔️ Boost lymphatic flow
✔️ Address areas of tension and muscle restriction
✔️ Use slightly deeper pressure where appropriate
✔️ Provide both therapeutic relaxation and mild lymphatic support
