🪄YOU CANNOT POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP

My ‘why’ behind the chair right now is so large and hits home for me.

I do what I do behind the chair because it allows YOU to take a moment just for you. No one else. You’re free to yap, read a book, play games on your devices, you’re even welcome to sit in pure silence (give or take background salon noise.)

You can’t go out into the world on an empty tank and expect to be able to show up for everyone and everything in your fullest capacity.

For anyone who knows me or sits in my chair, you know how much I am married to the game. Addicted to the hustle. If I’m not working I am thinking about work or some other lucrative endeavor. My biggest lesson this year (it’s come full circle again since 2022-2023) is to SLOW DOWN and TAKE REST. This way I can show up to our visits at my best. I can be there fully to make memories and laugh with my friends. I can be the best version of me for my daughter, and be a better spouse to my partner.

✨Availability 6/15-6/24✨

Plan for the 4th of July holiday week accordingly! Spots are filling up fast!

I thought my life was over at 20….
let’s talk about it.

•I had to take a leave of absence from cosmetology school and wasn’t sure I was ever going to get to go finish.
•I was bringing a little girl into what felt like a scary world (thanks COVID).
•I thought I was never going to get to do FX Makeup again.
•I didn’t have time to play guitar anymore.
•I had to go back to working at the bakery I was working at in high school for a stable income while raising a newborn.

It. Was. Just. The. Beginning.

Me now at 25:
•My 5 year old wants to be JUST LIKE ME (seriously ask anyone, she raves about how cool I am and how she wants to do hair just like me).
•I’ve gotten to do makeup on two film projects so far, I cannot wait to see what’s next.
•I am working at my dream salon. My coworkers are the coolest and I am grateful to get to call them my friends.
•I don’t play music much anymore, but I get to do some really neat stuff for As Tides Rise
•I FEEL ALIVE

Just when you think your life is over, take a step further, one foot in front of the other. Let the chapter close out, let the end scene fade, and welcome in the unknown.

If 20 year old me could see me now I think we’d have one big sad sappy hug and jump around with excitement.

💅 Let’s talk about COMMUNITY and how important this is in our industry!

I want to take this opportunity to shoutout my Salon Voe | Lincoln, Ne community. My bosses, my coworkers, my friends, our clients, and our loved ones who cheer us on.

There is nothing I love more than walking into this space and being greeted by smiles and laughter. The comradery of working in a salon space with fellow artists/ creators is unmatched. Everyone is unique and yet it’s all so harmonious.

Success to me used to look like flying solo and being independent. In a solo space, closed off doing my own thing. I have can genuinely say I feel like I have FLOURISHED as an individual since starting at Salon Voe.

I encourage you to find your community, your people, your network. Behind the chair, in your hobbies, in day to day life. We’re sociable creatures and need to have that aspect to some extent. Life is too short. 💕

✨I’m going to say the controversial thing….

BURNOUT DOESN’T=SUCCESS ‼️‼️

I used to work 80 hour weeks and thought that’s what it took to be successful. 2 full time jobs, lots of money, no time to relax and enjoy what I was working towards until I was older.

WRONG.

Life. Is. Too. Freaking. Short. GO LIVE. Work hard, YES. But with BOUNDARIES. You are no good to those you are taking care of and pouring your all into if you yourself are running on EMPTY.

This is a common theme in this industry to double book for 10-12 hour days 5-6 days a week. “Hustle culture” is killing our natural need for leisure and the pure essence of simply existing.

At the height of me working 8am-12am 3-4 days a week I was dealing with a slew of health problems. My sleep cycle was way off, my hormones were deregulated. I was 21/22 and on blood pressure medication. My mental health was at an all time low.

My point with this is, you can be successful without running yourself into the ground. There is more to the picture of success than monetary, materials, or status symbols. It’s also a mindset and a feeling. You can be and feel successful simply because you get to work in an industry you love, creating work that is meaningful to you, while also having time to be a mom, a friend, and a person outside of other human connections.

If you’ve sat in my chair or follow me on my personal, you know I’m a big astrology geek. Venus is conjunct Jupiter today. Lots of goodness in the ether with this one the 9th-13th. But the rest of June in general is really full of abundance and powerful exciting energy and planetary alignments.

And if astrology isn’t your thing, that’s ok, no judgement here, you can still feel the benefits of the mindset! Find your whimsy, dream your wildest dreams. Maybe journal about it.
