Using a heat protectant is one of the best things you can do to protect your hair. It is especially important to use one if you have fine/ damaged/ lightened hair, which is more likely to break over time under the stress of the heat.
Heat protectant is a product you should be applying before you do any heat styling to your hair. (Blow dryer, curling iron, straightener) It comes in both cream & spray form. It works as a barrier between your hot tool and hair strand itself. They provide protection to your cuticle & keep your hair soft & smooth. Imagine you’re cooking chicken in a pan without any oil… your chicken is going to be burnt & dry as hell. Basically what you’re doing to your hair not using a heat protectant.
You wouldn’t reach into a hot oven without using an oven mit would you ? The same applies here, hot tools go up to 450 degrees- you need a mit (a heat protectant)
Although you might not notice it at first or after one use… continually using heat and not protecting your hair will make your hair more distressed & fragile, resulting in breakage.
I’ll list a few of my favorites below.
1. Oribe Invisible Defense Universal Protection Spray
2. Truss Lipotropic Nutrients Spray (I use this every single day on every single client. It’s my go-to.)
3. Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray
4. Oribe Hair Alchemy Fortifying Treatment Serum (this is a treatment leave in cream with thermal protection, it’s new and amazing for blow drying)
5. Oribe Balm d’Or Heat Styling Shield
6. & 7. IGK Good Behavior Spirulina Protein Smoothing Spray and Balm. I prefer the spray before hot tools and the balm before blow drying.
