It is a common form of hyperpigmentation which creates dark patches that are usually brown or grey.

It’s a result of malfunctioning or overproducing melanocytes. Melanocytes are cells that produce color or deeper pigment in the skin.

 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒔:
☀️ Sunlight or too much sun exposure. This includes tanning beds. Yes, some people still go to a tanning bed. UV exposure triggers the body to produce more pigment but it isn’t always evenly distributed. It can appear uneven, splotchy patches & freckles.

🤰🏽Pregnancy - increases the hormone levels of estrogen & progesterone. Also Known as the “Pregnancy Mask”.

💊 Medications & Antibiotics can make you more sensitive to light, dehydrate you, & shift hormones.

🤯 Stress can cause the hormone cortisol which can trigger Melasma.

🧬 Thyroid Disease - when this very vital gland that helps the body function efficiently has developed a problem, it can increase the risk of Melasma.

This can be a tricky process. You have to use Color correction to neutralize & veil the dark patches so that when you apply the foundation & concealers, dark patches don’t shine through.
⁂ Because of her skin tone, I used a combination of deep orange/deep peach , red, & deep purple tones.
⁂ I applied strategically to balance the darker areas VS the lighter areas so that when I applied the foundation over top, it would appear even.

Lighting is key! Be sure to apply your makeup using the lighting closest to where you’ll be spending the majority of your time.
Natural daylight will most likely usually be a full proof sure bet! I like to take selfie’s so I can see if there’s anywhere I need to blend better or define before leaving the house!
