Core engagement is what will save you from so many back injuries during weightlifting. You should not load heavy weights until you know how to engage your core properly.

This 3D breathing technique I teach in Pilates is also extremely beneficial for strength training. The difference is that during heavy lifts, you keep that pressure while you push, pull, hinge or squat.

Step 1: inhale deeply through the nose and expand your rib cage to the sides and back. Avoid breathing only through the upper chest, that usually creates neck and shoulder tension.

Step 2: exhale through pursed lips and bring your lower ribs toward your hip bones while engaging your deep core muscles and shortening the obliques. Keep the pelvis neutral and glutes relaxed.

Step 3: your corset is now zipped up. Don’t let it go. Keep breathing through the sides of the rib cage while maintaining that deep core engagement.

Step 4: if you are lifting heavy, brace harder like someone is about to punch you in the stomach, then exhale during the lowering phase.

Not only will you perform better, but this is also one of the most effective ways to build strong abdominals. Not endless crunches. Not 10-minute plank challenges. Proper breathing and proper bracing.

As a 44 year-old mom, this is what changed:

+ stop shrinking myself and chasing a tiny skinny body. I want to feel strong and healthy.�+ stop drinking away my social anxiety. I rather enjoy time with friends with a clear mind and be fully present.�+ stop ruining a full week of effort with alcohol every weekend. I work too hard in the gym for that.�+ stop supplementing what I can eat through whole foods. real nutrition will always matter more to me.�+ stop doing endless cardio just to burn myself out. I’m not 28 anymore.�+ stop trying to win every battle. chocolate in front of TV never killed anyone.�+ stop obsessing and overplanning every meal. I trust my body to fuel itself the way it needs.�+ stop trying to fit and be friends with everyone. I know I cannot satisfy everybody.�+ stop chasing quantity in friendships. I prefer fewer friends and deeper relationships.�+ stop looking up to people just because they are smart. I now pay attention to their moral values.�+ stop putting social outing before my family. Time with them matters most to me.�+ stop treating life like a permanent diet. I learned how to feed myself properly.�+ stop staring at the number on the scale. It won’t be written on my grave when I die.�+ stop doing everything to the extreme. I learned that recovery and enjoyment is just as important as training.�+ stop blaming others for my problems. I am responsible for my own life.

That’s the healthiest mindset shift I’ve made so far.

Navigating the fitness world is confusing. We are constantly torn between marketing targeting women chasing a forever 25-year-old body, and trainers who don’t differentiate how women should actually train.

Then you start lifting weights and think.. “wait, I don’t want to look bulky, help!!”
So let’s be clear, most women are not chasing “bigger.” We want a snatched waist and a curved lifted body. Think Cindy, Elle, Charlize (if you are aiming for skinny fat, this might not be your place)

At Cleo Studio, we program smart, personalized strength training for each client. The goal is simple: build your body toward those strong and sexy balanced shapes. And here is the part no one tells you.. when you strength train properly, your core is working 1000% of the time. Bracing, stabilizing, controlling.

So no, you DO NOT need endless ab circuits. We’re not here to build a SpongeBob torso. We want to keep that tight waist, build deep stabilizers, and create that corset effect. Add Pilates if you want to refine it even more with control and alignment. The goal is a sculpted body.

Do you know less than 5% of women can do a pull-up? Not because it’s impossible, just because most don’t train for it properly. At Cleo Studio, we train every woman to get there, even if you are starting from zero.

Pull-ups are one of the best moves for posture, that sculpted V-shape back (think Charlize Theron🔥), strong core and upper body. But if you just jump on the bar and try, you will quit in 10 seconds. It’s a HARD move when you skip the essential steps. Here is how we build it:

Step 1: TRX / Cable Rows
Start here. Mimic the pull-up angle.
Body aligned, core tight, glutes engaged.

Step 2: Inverted Rows
Your “horizontal pull-up”, chest to bar.

Step 3: Scapular Pull-Ups
The step everyone skips!!
Hang and move only shoulder blades, no bending arms.

Step 4: Assisted Pull-Ups with band
Practice the full movement, chest up, shoulders back.

Step 5: Negative Pull-Ups
This is the game changer. Jump to top (chin over bar) and lower slowly (3–5 seconds).

Step 6: Your First Pull-Up
Hallelujah 🙌
Even 1 rep = huge win!!

This doesn’t happen in a month, it took me almost a year to get mine. Stop expecting results without training the steps.

Not a full grocery haul, just a quick reset after a long weekend away, following my rules:

1. I don’t have time to drive to the store, search for everything, wait in line, drive back, unload… so I delegate that. Hello 2026 🙌

2. I focus on protein, fiber, and food for the whole family (husband is away this week… so it’s easier).

3. I only buy what we will actually eat during the week. No waste. I always choose quality over quantity.

4. I keep it simple and that’s exactly why it works.
