Working long shifts sometimes means missing birthdays, dinners, and special family moments. It’s one of the hardest parts of the job.

But balance doesn’t always mean being there every time.
Sometimes it means making the moments you do have count even more.

A phone call.
A surprise visit.
A simple “I love you.”

My Biggest Culture Shock as a Nurse Abroad

One of the things that shocked me most when I started working in a hospital abroad was how patients speak to nurses.

Where I trained, patients often see nurses as strict authority figures.

But here, many patients call you by your first name, ask lots of questions, and even challenge your decisions.

At first it felt strange 🤣🤣🤣🤣

But I later realized something beautiful about it — patients here are very involved in their own care.

And that taught me a new level of communication and patience as a nurse.
