It’s my birthday month. 🌼

Growing up in northern Minnesota, May often held both snow and green buds breaking through it, a visually delightful reminder of time and cycles, and I’ve been thinking a lot about both.

I began my work with skin more than two decades ago. At the time, I wasn’t thinking about building a business, or calling in a community. I was just trying to understand my own skin and my complicated relationship to it, and maybe, just maybe, help some others on my way who were looking for a different way to feed themselves, too.
 
I’m floored today that I live in skin that’s healthy and my days are filled with conversations with all of you, with exploring, as an entire career, what it means to give good care, to feed this organ and how we show up for it.

It took decades of fighting my extremely reactive, psoriasis and dermatitis-prone skin to learn that gentleness and consistency with my own care were the key.
 
Before returning to the clays, oils, and herbs that nourish and soothe my skin today, I tried everything — topical steroids, ointments made from tar and bleach, rounds of antibiotics, even an experimental injection in my butt cheek that once left an indent the size of my fist that lingered for more than a year. I was desperate for relief.
 
I was ashamed to leave my house. I avoided mirrors. I didn’t want to be touched, and there was so much I couldn’t touch. My self-talk was far from loving.

That pain became the catalyst for everything beautiful that followed, for what would become May Lindstrom Skin. 
 
I’ve spent nearly my entire life searching for answers, and all these years later, the formulas that supported me through my own healing are what I share with you. I’m no longer searching for a “fix,” but I still need the reminder to slow down enough to receive care, to feed my skin day after day, not only when I’m in crisis. Relationship-building takes consistency. Skin is no different.
 
I have to keep showing up.

With Valentine’s Day happening this month, I’ve been thinking about what it really means to celebrate love, and what it took for me to find it here, in my own skin. What it still requires, and always will. Love isn’t passive. It’s an action. It’s attention.
 
It’s choosing presence again and again, for a lifetime.

My skin is healthy now. I still experience occasional flare-ups, but they’re far quieter than they once were. The lesson has been learning to listen before my body screams, and to offer care even when it does. To meet myself in the mirror with compassion and kindness. To touch my skin and say thank you, in whatever state it’s in.

I’m traveling today, which means I woke up early and got The Problem Solver on first thing.

I did a treatment mask with The Problem Solver first thing upon waking on Saturday morning, and plunked myself down on a towel in a shady spot in my yard to just sit and BE for a few minutes with myself.
