I thought starting a perfume brand would mean spending my days making perfume.
Nobody mentioned the spreadsheets.
The shipping boxes.
The constant refreshing of Shopify.
Or becoming emotionally attached to glass bottles.
Wouldn’t trade it for anything, though. ♥️
What’s something about your job that nobody warned you about?

Some perfume brands are built in boardrooms.
Others are built at 11:43 PM overfilled coffee cups, obsessive reformulations, and way too much emotional attachment to molecules.
Small batch smells different for a reason.

Perfume is basically emotional casting.
Came back to the hotel after day one of markets for makers and just kind of sat there thinking about everything.
Three years ago i started working on KI-OKU.
I had formulas, packaging, ideas… and still waited months to launch because i was scared.
Then i got laid off.
And somehow now i get to spend my weekends meeting people who connect with something i created from scratch.
It still doesn’t feel real sometimes.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting my work, my weird little scent universe, and honestly me as a person. I don’t think i’ll ever fully be able to explain how much it means to me.
Confession:
I choose Drifter over Afterglow most days because I’m lowkey scared of feeling “too much.”
Even though Afterglow is the scent most people obsess over 🫠
