Earlier this year we rescued 52 Pomeranians from a neglectful backyard breeding operation. Peggy and Puah are the last two of the group to still need a home. Mama Peggy is about four years old and she weighs just over five pounds. Baby Puah (female) is four months old and currently weighs just over two pounds. Peggy was pregnant when she came to us and she delivered her pups shortly after she arrived. Her daughter Puah was born with a condition called microopthalmia. Her eyes did not develop properly in utero and therefore she is blind. From the start, Peggy seemed to sense that Puah was special and needed more care than her siblings. Peggy is extremely devoted to Puah and Puah has come to rely on her mom for comfort and confidence since she cannot see. It is extremely rare for us to place a mom and puppy together in the same home but in this case we feel it is best for both of them to stay together permanently.

In addition to her vision impairment Puah has one other medical concern that is an important consideration for her new family. Early on, she was diagnosed with a heart murmur. We had her evaluated by the cardiology team at UGA and testing revealed mild grade pulmonic stenosis. At this time Puah does not need any medication or surgery but in the future she may need one or both. She is scheduled for a repeat echocardiogram in six months and she will needed to be followed by a cardiologist throughout her lifetime. Puah’s adopter needs to understand that her long-term prognosis is currently unknown and be financially prepared to provide whatever specialized vet care she needs throughout her lifetime.
