Born and raised in Kentucky, Misti fell in love with the simple natural beauty of the South. She grew up with her mother and grandmother in the same household, but their experience with make up was very limited. Growing up as an only child, she was left to her own devices to satisfy her natural curiosity about make up. Her first memory of this was about the age of seven years old, painting her gra
ndmothers face with a vibrant pallet of various pinks and blues as if her Grandmother were a Picasso piece. Young Misti had no guidance to show her what colors went where or how to apply the make up correctly, so one can only imagine her Grandmother’s reaction when she saw her own face and it looked like a patchwork of various mismatched colors. As she grew up, Misti experimented with different personal make up styles, still ever curious about make up and it’s ability to transform a person. Her teen years were spent between wearing the whitest foundations and blackest eye liners for the perfect “Goth look”, to an obsession with the reddest of lips and pin curls to create the perfect “rockabilly” look for herself. She also created many unique make up styles for herself as she grew older, each one was an attempt at experimenting with different colors, and applications to further define her personal look and style. In her early 20’s, Misti began modeling while in college. As her modeling experience grew, she began to fine tune her make up skills, and narrow her area of interests in make up application. As she sat in the makeup chairs, she paid attention to each makeup artists technique, trying to learn a little from their vast experience each time. During a particular modeling job, Misti found herself sitting in Glenn Alfonso’s make up chair and it changed her life. Each time she sat in Glenn's chair, her love grew and grew for makeup. Through conversation with Mr. Alfonso, he revealed he had apprenticed under famed makeup artist, Kevyn Auccoin. Misti paid close attention to all the advice, tips and experience he passed along to her. She was so very encouraged by his words, and was given a new sense of direction and passion for make up. Alfonso suggested The Makeup Designory as the best place to begin her education and first steps into the world of makeup artistry. Growing up in a small town, Misti never thought makeup could be a career choice for herself. After relocating to Los Angeles full time in 2010, a new door of possibilities was opened up to her. She found that makeup could be more than a personal passion in her free time but a fulfilling career filled with endless opportunities. From beauty application to historical pieces, Misti hopes to inspire others with her craft and unique talents as she was once inspired, and to embrace every career opportunity that comes her way.
