Over the last few years, many of you have asked when I planned to retire. I have always answered the same way, I had no intention of retiring. I still love the work, the people, and the purpose it gave me. I also said someday one of my health care providers would be the one to retire me, either heart, eyes, or hands would betray me.
I am sorry to say, that day has arrived. After a January filled with heart related health issues, complicated by catching the flu, I have been told I should not return to work.
Billy Shears is officially closed. September 1st, 1983 was opening day, offical last day was January 31st, 2025.
Over the forty plus years the salon has existed, and the fifty plus I have been in this career, many of you have become friends, some like family, and all were treasured. I will miss seeing each of you, miss our conversations and interactions, and your sparkling personalities!
I wish to each of you in your life, peace, love, luck, and a long life with prosperity. Thank you for adding all of that to mine.

We have decided to heed the dire weather warning and close the salon tomorrow, Monday, January 6, 2025. If you are scheduled for time on Monday, we will be contacting you as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment. We hope to be back in the salon on Tuesday, and thanks for your understanding and patronage.

Another post, two in two weeks, a record! The news from Billy Shears this week is, our A/C unit has been compromised either by vandals or thieves! Someone got onto the roof of our building and opened/damaged our A/C unit, maybe looking to steal copper. This has left the unit , while still working, at a very reduced capacity and efficiency, so the salon heats up very quickly in the afternoon sun.
This is requiring us to watch the temps very carefully, and on the hottest days, we may need to rearrange the schedule, to keep our patrons, and workers, from getting overheated. Again, I apologize for the inconveniences we are causing you, our patrons, during these times. Between our new parking problems, and now A/C problems, it has become a chore for you to keep doing business with us, but we are here, and trying, to keep serving you!

Patrons and followers of Billy Shears a Studio for Hair, I recently was contacted by the engineer of the City of Lynchburg. who informed me that our little slice of heaven, the 2400 block of Rivermont Avenue, is becoming a construction zone!
Starting on July 5, 2023, and lasting until on or about September 19, 2023, we will be in the middle of street and pavement work.
The effect that this has on you, and us, is that almost all of our on street parking is being taken up by construction equipment and vehicles. There may be two spots left on the opposite side of the street, but parking is going to be very limited. I know some of our patrons cannot, and should not, hike in from the Magnolia lot, or from above Norfolk in front of Randolph College, but these may be the only options left to us.
Please be patient with this inconvenience, and us, and if we need to rearrange appointments for you, do not hesitate to call and we will be as helpful as possible.
I am very sorry for the problems this will cause you, our patrons and friends, but as I was informed by our city engineer, nothing can be done to make it easier. Please plan accordingly, leave extra time, and if you have to change appointments until after the construction, we understand. Thanks for your patronage and friendship over the years(approaching 50 years in the salon this month!), and hoping to see you soon.
