Polished Malibu

Hi everyone! We’ve been getting requests about removing gel polish so we put together some basic steps and tips for you. This is for soak off gel and not acrylics or hard gel. In the salon we use cotton and foil or cotton and clamps for “soaking” but clients sometimes find it difficult to wrap the foil around their own fingers. So we simplified it to straight soaking for home use.
Acetone is flammable so be sure not to use around candles or flames!

Things you will need:
100% Acetone is best. Regular polish remover with acetone will work but it will take a bit longer to soak off.

Coarse nail file

Fine buffer

A small glass or ceramic dish

An orangewood stick or metal pusher to GENTLY scrape off gel.

Cuticle oil

Lotion

Directions:

File the top layer of polish to remove the shine. This helps the acetone pe*****te into the gel.

Apply cuticle oil on your skin around the nail plate to protect it from drying.

Put enough acetone into bowl to cover your nails.

Soak for 10 minutes straight. Try not to take fingers out of bowl to check on them.

Polish is ready for removal when it easily scrapes off without much pressure. Soak longer if it is not coming off easily.
After all gel is removed gently buff nails to remove any remaining particles. Wash and dry hands.
Apply cuticle oil and lotion.
Apply cuticle oil every night before bedtime so it has all night to soak in. This will help overcome the dryness from daily hand washing.
