Previous brow work including microblading can affect how your ombré turns out even if it’s light. Because the skin heals from bottom up, old faded pigments that have sunken down can come up closer to skin after we implant more. So it’s harder and sometimes not even possible to go lighter in the front. If that’s what you want I’ll always try but it may have to be darkened at the perfecting session. Which is probably what will happen with these brows.

Let’s talk about what I look for before I take on someone else’s old work before I decide whether or not I can correct. (Which honestly correction isn’t exactly the right word, because it insinuates that the previous artist did something wrong. That’s not necessarily true, old work heals and shrinks and fades and can distort what the fresh work originally was. So let’s use rework and refresh instead. Huge side note, my ADHD made me do it.)

Ok so here’s what am I looking at and what I would recommend depending on what I see:

Number one: Is the previous work light enough? If your past brows are too dark, it’s just going to turn into a muddy mess that no one’s happy with. In that case, I’ll recommend removal.

Number two: Does the client like the previous shape and is it fairly symmetrical? If yes, then usually we can move forward and make slight adjustments like I did here. If not, I’d recommend removal.

Number three: Do I have the skill set and knowledge to rework/refresh the past work so that we’re both happy? Honestly, I’ve done a lot of refresh brows and I’ve learned a lot along the way and there are definitely some brows I wish I had not moved forward with. Or brows that healed and I didn’t love, even though the client was happy. I know a lot of artists will just refuse because they don’t want their name on brows that aren’t 100% their work or that don’t meet their normal standards and I get that.

I myself have had my brows removed and it was painful and took forever, so I understand the frustration and lack of desire to having to remove. So if there a chance I can do it, I’ll be real honest with you another my best guess at how they’ll turn out and let you decide. So if I say you should remove, please trust, I really believe that your brows will not turn out well. It’s not just because I don’t want my name on that work.

My hot and probably controversial take is that making you happy, is more important than making me happy. BUT I have to at least feel like what I can do will improve them. If that’s the case, then we’ll be a go. 😘
