Tom Landry was born on September 11, 1924, in Mission, Texas — a quiet beginning for a man who would go on to shape the very soul of professional football. He played his college football at the University of Texas at Austin, but his life’s journey was interrupted by something far greater than the game. Landry answered the call to serve his country, becoming a decorated pilot and World War II veteran, a chapter of courage and discipline that would define the man he later became. After the war, he returned to football, playing professionally for the New York Giants, already thinking the game at a level few others ever would.
In 1960, Landry was entrusted with an impossible task — leading a brand-new franchise called the Dallas Cowboys. What followed was one of the most remarkable coaching tenures in sports history. For 29 consecutive seasons, from 1960 to 1988, Landry stood on the same sideline, guiding one team with unwavering consistency — an NFL record that still stands. Even more astonishing were his 20 straight winning seasons, a standard of excellence that has never been matched and remains one of the greatest accomplishments in league history.
Known for his calm, composed demeanor and meticulous attention to detail, Landry was a football architect. He mastered and popularized the 4–3 defense, invented the flex defense, and reinvented the shotgun offense, forever changing how the game is played. He was demanding, precise, and relentless in preparation — yet always fair, earning the deep respect of the players who wore his star.
In 1990, Tom Landry was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, his legacy officially cemented among the immortals of the game. Ten years later, on February 12, 2000, he passed away at the age of 75. But for Cowboys fans — and for the NFL itself — Tom Landry never truly left. He remains a symbol of integrity, innovation, and quiet greatness… one of the greatest coaches in the history of football, and forever a legend in Dallas.

“I’ve seen firsthand how much Scott Sanford supports law enforcement. With my 48 years in law enforcement, I know the importance of having leaders who stand with us. While serving as State Representative, Scott was a strong advocate for public safety and those who protect our communities. He would make an excellent Mayor of McKinney, and I’m proud to support him.” – Constable Sammy Knapp
