I’m going to say something that might be an unpopular opinion … or maybe it’s not. But I think our industry has started putting more value on having great marketing vs. being great hairstylists.
Here’s what I mean.
x a beautiful salon doesn’t automatically create a great client experience.
x a perfectly curated Instagram doesn’t tell me how your color grows out 8 weeks later.
x Being a salon owner isn’t just about creating content. It’s about helping create career paths for your stylists.
And don’t ever get me wrong, I love me some good branding. I love beautiful salons + I love good marketing.
But branding should support a great business, not replace one.
I think we’ve become incredibly good at creating businesses that look successful online, but the foundation isn’t always there. Sometimes, what really matters isn’t what’s immediately visible.
How does your clients’ color grow out six months later?
Is there longevity in your work?
Do your clients genuinely feel cared for?
Are your stylists building successful, fulfilling careers?
What’s the education like behind the scenes?
What’s the salon culture really like after the cameras are off?
Those are the things that build a lasting reputation.
Because the prettiest salon doesn’t automatically create the best client experience.
The most aesthetic Instagram doesn’t automatically make someone the best hairstylist.
At the end of the day, your reputation in this industry isn’t built by what people see before they book.
It’s built by what they say AFTER they leave your chair.. by how you made them feel, how well their color grows out, and whether they’d recommend you to a friend.
Those are the things that build a lasting business.
Marketing gets people in the door.
The quality of your work is what keeps them coming back. Keep being you. 🩷
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Has our industry started putting more emphasis on perception rather than the things that create long-term success?

Low maintenance × high standards. 🍸💛
One of my favorite things after maternity leave with my son was seeing how beautifully everyone’s color had grown out. Healthy hair, color that was still blending, and I was amazed at how well my clients truly cared for their hair at home.
When you invest in me, I’ll always invest back in you through education, honest recommendations, and creating hair that looks just as beautiful weeks later as it did on day one. 🥹
I can’t wait to see you all again. Thank you to everyone who’s pre-booked or patiently waited for me while I enjoy this time at home with my daughter and son. 💕

Do you ever feel like your blonde looks amazing when you leave the salon, but a few weeks later it just isn’t as bright? 🤷♀️😅
The good news is that it usually isn’t because your stylist did anything wrong. Little things like hard water, heat styling, product choices, & skipping appointments can all affect how your blonde looks between your visits
I put together a few of the biggest reasons blondes lose their brightness (and what you can do about it). 🙌🏻
Don’t forget that beautiful blonde isn’t always just in the appointment, it’s about the maintenance, too.
