When I suffered my spinal injury and the infection that followed, I hit one of the darkest places of my life. The doctors told me I might never walk again. I remember lying in that hospital bed—angry, scared, and desperate to control every outcome.

What God taught me in that season was surrender. True, complete surrender. I had to hand Him not only my pain, but also my dreams, my future, and my desire to know how or when I’d heal. I had to trust that even this—the injury, the fear, the waiting—would somehow be used for good.

And in that surrender, something shifted. My heart started to rest, my spirit began to heal, and my body slowly followed.

I did walk again. I walked, I ran, I played with my daughters, jumped with them on the trampoline, traveled the world with my family. I still am. But that happened when I stopped white-knuckling my healing and truly released the outcome to God.

When we’re walking through pain, we still do the work—supporting our bodies, our minds, and our spirits with everything we can. But we don’t carry it alone. We can’t. Real healing happens when we stop trying to control every outcome and start trusting the One who already holds the outcome in His hands.

My encouragement to you is to let go of what you’ve been gripping so tightly…and let God do what only He can do.
